Anyone here do it/done it?

I love snowboarding so was thinking of giving this a go, since we dont get much snow here. :D

Any good shops in Perth?

Best places to go sandboarding that aren't too far away?

Sandboarding/Snowboarding - Not same/same Jan.

I think you'll find sandboarding boring as bat shit.

Fun if you get towed behind a car, but just boarding down a couple of dunes...meh.

But if you must, Lancelin. Cervantes.

Yeah, gets a bit boring imo.... nothing like snowboarding from what ive been told

You're better off taking up wakeboarding :)

the idea or concept is fun. but getting 5 secs or enjoyment then spending the next minute walking back up the dune kills the experience

If you're into 4WDing, or know someone, there are some pretty good dunes between Burns Beach and Mindarie. Been there a few times with mates.

Hit up google maps, look along the coastline inline with Tamala Park - although it does not look it, there are some pretty sizeable dunes there.

Solved by having a winch on the 4WD parked at the top of the dune :)

Until we get to June next year you don't know what snowboarding is like Blair. ;)

I don't expect them to be the same but kind of keen to give it a shot.

Jan, i've done both.

Snowboarding is 10000 times better.
Sandboarding you find it very difficult to get any sort of balance and carve action. It's pretty much straight down.

As Marc said, best of taking up Wake boarding.

Why June? Few mates are goin to Japan in Feb apparently it's peak season then and owns anything over here you can experience on the snow..

Because thats the time that works best for everyone going (group of 8). Plus I've been to Whistler, Aspen, few in Europe so keen to experience it in Oz for once. Jap and NZ can be for following trips.

Me and my mates always hit that area up. Haven't been for ages though. Pretty good 4Wding for somewhere thast only 5 mins form our houses.

That would be correct.

Although I'm yet to do Whistler, my Uncle boards there every year and recons it shits on Jap...

+1.

As has been said, 5 seconds (or less) of downhill, 1-2 minutes to climb back up, and you get buggered pretty quickly. Not worth it.

Wakeboarding is awesome. I know Tyson (hopefully still) has a good board. :p

got about 3 or 4 boards at home that I made years ago... best spot I ever boarded was Lancelin... but as has been said... doesnt compare to snowboarding, but it is a stack cheaper and closer to home!! :D

Sandboard + 4wd + speed - skin = fun
Treking up dunes = too hard
