Umm i use an Olympus 5mp 3dig zoom or something that TJ conned me into buying. :P
Seriously though, good camera. Did a bit of research before i bought it and seems to be one of the better ones in the price range that i was prepared to spend.
Dont really use it to its full potential though, find myself taking pics at 1024 resolution most of the time. Still playing around with it and discovering new things and tricks.
Cameras are the best, if i knew how much fun they are i would have bought one much earlier.

people often think that just because the camera has a better(higher) megapixel rating that it makes the pictures a better quality.
You can take a 6mp camera with a standard set of lenses and compare it to a 4mp camera with a decent lense and the quality is heaps different. Even 3mp cameras with good lenses do sensational work.
Higher MP cameras are good for taking like MASSIVE resolution pictures then shrinking them down for things that will actually get printed on paper/magazine paper.
Above info in a nutshell: buy a camera with a decent lense even if the MP rating is lower!

Karag is on the ball. Did you know that taking a photo at resolution of 1024x768 is only using 0.8 megapixels and 2 megapixels = 1600x1200? For posting photos on the web this is more than enough. If you want to print high resolution prints, then the higher the image resolution the better.
A camera with high megapixel rating is not going to produce quality images unless coupled with a decent lens. As mentioned, many people measure a cameras performance by its megapixel rating. A classic example is the Sony DSC-F828 for example, being 8 megapixel. What they may not realise, is that with this model the image sensor is the same size as its predecessor the F717 which was 5mp. What they have done with the new model is crammed 8mp into a sensor the same size as the 5mp one, which produces higher noise levels in images compared to the older model.
The image quality is only as good as the weakest link in the chain, in most cases now this being the lens and the size of the image sensor. Also for those new to digital cameras and looking to buy a consumer digital camera with zoom, ignore the digital zoom rating, digital zoom is useless. You want to worry about the optical zoom. What digital zoom does is digitally enlarge a portion of the image, by cropping a portion of the image and then enlarging it back to size and you lose image quality. It's just like using Photoshop on your PC to enlarge a photo and then cropping the section you want to view.
I bought my first digital camera, a 2.8mp Sony DSC-P3 almost 3 years ago. It has no optical zoom, but 3x digital zoom which i never use. The best thing about it is that it's pretty compact so you can take it anywhere. Was time to upgrade so a few months ago purchased a Digital SLR, the Canon EOS 300D which i am still learning to master. Have the kit 18-45mm lens, a 24-85mm, and a 100-300mm lens.

lol
i only use 1600x1200 at most.
but i wanted to say i have 5mp
i know what you are saying and knew before i bought a camera that i will mainly use 1024xwhatever, but meh, it good to use the 5mp sometimes just to see how bad your skin really is

looks like we have some keen photographers here. but i already knew that *nudges chris*
yeah the sony f828, boy they stuffed that up. I set out to buy that one originally, and i moved to 3 other cameras, until i finally landed at the 300D and couldnt find a flaw for what i needed it for.
im another 300d dslr owner.
*did you know* that if ur cheeky you can download software for your 300d which basically turns it into the 10D, apart from physical limitations like the buffer size etc. Shhhhhh

yup, brilliant example of where mega pixel doesnt equal good camera. they are shit to say the least. when i was borrowing summoners 717 , i can gladly say it was the best camera i had ever used... until i got my power shot pro. after tonight im in love with it. amazing quality.

Personally: Canon D60 (6.2 megapixel)
17-35mm f/2.8L USM, 70-200 f/2.8L USM, 50mm 1.4USM, 550EX flash unit, slave transmitter. Have various tripods, include suction mounts for cars
The D60 has gone through about 3-4 shutters, well over 50,000 shots taken on it (more like triple, but not sure as shot counter gets reset after each shutter replacement) and numerous drops but still going strong :-) Good thing about this camera is the batteries last a very long time, however the down side to it is the slow focusing which hampers car actions shots. I may need to invest in a new camera shortly to fix that problem, plus the D60 is just getting too old now.
Work: Canon 1D (mk1 unfortunately so only 4megapixel but still weighs as much as mk2)
16-35mm f/2.8L USM, 70-200 f/2.8L USM IS, 24-70 f/2.8L USM, 50mm f/2.5 Macro, 2x convertor, a couple of 550EX flash units, slave transmitter
I hate shooting with this camera as its so freakin quick, plus the batteries die within a day of shooting. This camera is only good for shooting sport I reckon.
I can agree with most of the points here about lens, megapixels etc. My best mate is a fashion / studio photographer and shoots only with a Canon 10D and is able to get an images far better than anything on film / slide. The reason behind this is because he knows how to use the camera to the best of its ability, uses the best lenses and is a bloody good operator both camera and behind the computer.
I haven't shot / touched film in 2 years. Will never go back. All the clients I have are very happy with images on CD, or the prints I churn out from my Epson 1290 printer (a3)
