Some of you have probably seen the banners on Skylines Australia in their header.

We'll be doing something similar.

At the moment, I'm still forking out of my own pocket for hosting etc. Plus, when it comes to events we have no money to throw at setups etc.

This should ensure that finally the upkeep is paid for by the site, and not by me, and we may be able to throw some coin at events to make our stands look a bit more professional.

With this, I hope to make antilag.com a CAMS affiliated club by the end of the year, and start running our own events.

Current sponsors wont be affected, as their banner and position will not change.
The only thing that will change is the antilag banner up the top of the forum pages will get smaller to fit an ad banner next to it.

My thoughts on this were, people are already on this site when they see the antilag banner, they don't need something so big in their face.

Nothing should really change, and I don't think you'll notice much, but wanted to give you all a heads up before it went ahead.

I'm all for it.

You've done alot for this site and, with the continuous growth of it, I would be a very difficult proposition to try and maintain it on your own.

The thought of being CAMS affiliated and being able to stage our own events is also very appealing.

Step in the right direction!

I think its a good idea. We hardly spend anytime looking at the top of the page anyway. Some other ideas could be:

1. Trying to attract more Traders like Import Central and have a small fee
2. DynoDays are a good way to raise a couple of hundred for the club
3. You and TJ can do appearences at events such as Bdays and corporate functions and charge an appearance fee
4. Charge a few bucks for the map on Antilag cruises. Bulk coin to be made right there haha.

Tocchi
24-09-2008, 09:24 AM
an Antilag.com charity cruise would be bulk successful based on the amount that turnup normally

but define charity/people in need:
- as mentioned above, the people with RB26's approaching 100,000 km
or
- going to antilag's kitty for future events

:p

anyways, i think its a good idea, Paul you might want to have a talk to Damon (kilma) about how he's set up Perthfalcons accounts. he would be able to give you suggestions and stuff for setting up a carclub account up and stuff like that

Brockas
24-09-2008, 09:39 AM
Thanks guys, I've got an idea of what needs to be done, but I'll keep you informed about that as it goes.

Ben, instead of getting the naming rights to events that already exist, I'd rather start our own events, tailored to exactly what people on this site would want.

Hosting was fine when we first started up, but we've gone from ~300 people logging on daily in 2005 to ~650 people logging on daily now.

Insurance is generally the killer for most events.

More supporting vendors who are a bit more active would be good....I'd be happy to assist and "account manage" and set up Group Buys on items .etc if you want Paul.

Kilma

Happy with that. I can appreciate how much it costs to keep sites like this running. Not something I would be keen to shell out of my own pocket for, that's for sure.

CAMS will be interesting..

Club needs to become incorporated, you will need to write up a club constitution and organise elected officials. Membership cards or identification required and obviously a yearly membership will need to be charged to cover costs of yearly CAMS affiliation.... fun starts now.

funnily enough, what Poombah mentioned, about the yearly membership, that would raise funds and also get rid of those dropkicks that join here and subsequently end up in poolroom and banned

either way, good move, and definitely good to have advertisers pay than you.

Yup, which is why there will be a couple of banners on the site. Nothing I've mentioned is cheap, and I simply can't afford to do it out of my own pocket.

Yup, well aware of all of that. Have the CAMS application stuff here, have my accountant setting up the company. None of it's going to be simple or cheap, but nothing worth having comes easy!

I've set a goal for CAMS affiliation by the end of the year. As long as we get the advertising online soon, it shouldn't be a problem.

Basically, if the page views stay consistent (2.5 million a month) we're looking pretty good to be able to set up our own events, while also maintaining a site which has a decent balance of motorsport / local events / general shit talk.

The website will fund the events, so you guys browsing this forum while you're bored at work are actually helping us out :)

Another forum I'm a part of has extra advertising on the front page of the forums for people who aren't registered on the forums, and the regular amount of adverts for those that are registered.

As I'm sure we get a few 'guests' come onto the forums each day to do a bit of reading, maybe throw some extra adverts their way?

Just an idea.
