Canon EOS Photo5 Competition 2008

Sounds like fun. Anyone can enter, so you don't have to own a Canon DSLR. Would be cool to at least have a few Antilaggers sign up and see how creative we can be with the objects provided, and post up our photos here. Best of all it's free, so you've got nothing to lose.


Canon Photo5 2008 is a chance to show off your imagination and camera skills. Last year's competition inspired some truly outstanding shots. This year it's your turn and here's how it works;

1. Register (http://www.canon.com.au/photo5/competition/registration.aspx) for your Photo5 box.

2. You will receive your Photo5 box in the mail within 7 working days.

3. The box contains 5 secret objects.

4. Your challenge is to shoot each object in the most creative way that you can.

5. Upload your finished pictures from the 1 October for judging and your chance to win a share in over $50,000 worth of Canon prizes.

You don't have to shoot all five but remember the more you do the better your chance of winning. Only one shot per object can be entered.

Please note this year's Photo5 is open to both professional and amateur photographers so make sure you enter the correct category. Photo5 is only open to Australian residents and entry is limited, register by 30 September 2008."

My crayon is red and umbrella orange. Thought they were a pretty good selection of colours.

One idea that came to mind was to get some girl in some japanese outfit pretending she's one of them video game characters and the umbrella as her weapon. Get her flying through the air with the umbrella out. Quiet possible to do, but just got to execute it right which is always the tricky part.

turns out 4 times as many entrants as last year
no idea on bubbles. havent even started yet but thats gunna be the hard one i recon. maybe thats going to be a play on images that one. such as a view of an object through a bubble. will be hard to get but reap awesome rewards

there is some massive photoshop work on some of those, especially the bubble ones. i think they cant take photos but their phd in photoshop gets them good results

I was pretty pissed they allowed photochop etc to be used as it takes away someones skills as a photographer etc and allows computer geeks to turn shit into gold.

I know fuck all about taking good pics but I was pretty impressed with my mrs pics for someone who only takes photos of our baby and our cats.

I'm not even going to bother for exactly that reason. I'm a skilled photoshopper and a fairly alright photographer, but its not fair for people who are fantastic with a camera to be trounced by someone with a mouse.

Every Pro photog uses a fair amount of Photoshop so I dont see where it matters, the final image is what the person wanted to acheive.
