I'd call Dream Theater a more approachable version of Progressive metal. Not taking anything away from them as they are virtuoso's and kick major arse - gig at burswood proves their awesomeness :D

The likes of prog metal im looking for are a little deeper again.

My interpretation to Progressive Metal would fall under the banner of the following:

prog rock, math metal, mathcore, odd time, rock/metal/jazz/fusion, technical metal, avant-garde metal...you get the idea.

Generally a heavy music style with emphasis on odd time musical mastery. Built on the discipline of stretching/exploring/inventing the boundaries and beyond of musicianship.

Found out about this band not long ago, haven't been able to stop listening to their latest album NINE. They sound like Dream Theater.

Scandinavian prog scene is insane atm.
