If you havent seen the ads yet, 60 mins are now on the bandwagon ...

7:30pm Channel 9 Sunday night , an "in-depth" hoon report.

On the edge of my seat motherfuckers !!!!!!

60 minutes?

*slight* chance of an objective report....

here's 10 bucks says we see the vl single pegger outta leach hwy maccas..

after watching a few reports on 60 minutes over the last few months, chance of objective report is slim to fuck all. they are getting as bad as the other current affairs shows, slowly but surely..

KPWISHN

Hopefully they have some good footage to get me pumped for an assault on the streets. lol

60 minutes is the only half decent bit of journalism on 7,9 and 10 anymore. Hopefully it's a decent story.

Cant wait for this awe inspiring piece of journalism. Wonder how many people have been "TERRORISED" by us and how many people have died. Looking forward to these stats.

They would have done an 'in depth' report on drink driving (largest contributor to road deaths) but they did not want to risk offending network management who openly supports this kind of behaviour.

60 minutes has gone backwards over last 5 years and is only marginally better journalism than ACA and TT.

Rossco
07-08-2008, 08:30 AM
doubt any WA footage will make the report as 60 mins is mainly filmed in the east. Should actually be worth watching, 60 mins is miles ahead of any other current affairs journalism.

MISS 13B
07-08-2008, 08:54 AM
Hmm it would be interesting to watch this story simply to see if they have footage of actual decent cars.

Like whether their idea of a hoon is driving a clapped out VN or an Evo...or perhaps a ricer with neons.

It would throw an interesting spin on the common misconception that all import drivers are hoons.

yeah...

hanging around carparks...
singing gay 'old macdonald had a farm songs'..
calling them 'pigs' and saying how theyre 'dogs'..
saying how fast they've gone on the streets ("yeah bro atleast 310km/h.. i spent like $5grand on my rex, shes quick as")

this will of course be the true image of US...we're all like them arent we :dizzy:

stereotyping - gotta love it.

Right at the end, that annoying 60mins journalist guy which is always HELL sarcastic about anything he is reporting on. says

"Someone over in the group has just fired a shot"

now hoons are armed and dangerious .... fuck this report is gonna be a hardcore hate one i can see it now .... :S

08-08-2008, 07:13 AM
no shit hey. after reading this thread yesterday i did a bit of a search on youtube for other 'hoon' reports, and sure enough, they linked hoons to a murder, because it was in an area that they went to hang out!!

WTF! hoon = murderer now. wtf does what car you drive have to do with anything if you are a real criminal?

From what i've seen on the ad all the footage seems to be american?
They had a couple of civics racing and then american cop cars.
The "gun" shot was probably just a big backfire, or someone with an antilag system hitting limter.

well...

from what i can also gather...

(dont know if they already have it)

but they'll probably want to issue different types of "hooning"

im sure 'aggrovated' hooning will become the norm, especially since we all carry ninja swords under our seats (to go with the import/japanese/fast and furious stereotype)

motorcyclists will also have their own stereotype...also taken from a hoons favourite movie (fast and the furious) - they all have uzis on them... :fingers:

hahahahahaah remind me of when i was in the car with a mate and he slapped a few corners, and some guy pulled up next to us with a camera, and shouted 'IVE GOT IT ALL!' we followed him for a good 30 mins, he tried losing us, running red lights. Eventually it wasnt safe to follow anymore so we stopped, 5 mins later we were filling up at the servo, and looky looky across the road at the lights we see him, then we tagged him again but from far away. he drove straight home, as he turned into the drive way, we drove infront of his house, and we just pointed at him, and my mate shouted out 'WE GOT YOU!' then we left

hoon Austral & NZ slang
Noun
a loutish youth who drives irresponsibly
Verb
to drive irresponsibly

Now I know we all hate the hoon tag BUT unfortunately we also have to keep in mind that most off this site are hoons BUT are responsible drivers (most of the time) BUT you have to keep in mind of the car clubs you wouldn't be seen dead crusing with as they are complete fuck tards, those people need to have their heads pulled in as yes they can & will hurt or kill innocent people.

What I'm getting at is yes the murderers, rapists and down right scum of WA need to be stopped by the police BUT some people who are classified as hoons do aswell.

Think I'm lying? Lets have an example...Your grandmother is crossing the road from buying groceries, road seems clear, looks right, left then right again, starts to cross though her legs aren't as fast as they used to be, yet 2 heroes up the road (driving anycar as really it doesn't matter) decide to race....get speed up....go round a gentle bend where your grandmother is crossing the road....and lets just say granny doesn't reach the otherside.

Now as this does affect you directly do you;
A) Blame the cops for not doing something about these people?
B) Tell the cops when they inform you & your family of what has happened yell at them for arresting the people that just killed your grandmother when they should be out getting the murders & rapists?

Yes I do agree that there should be more places where people can enjoy their cars within an appropriate cost bracket (or even free which all can afford) to reduce the "hoons" on the road.

I'm sure at the end of the day you'll agree or at least acknowledge what I'm saying as there are so many posts in the Spotted thread or in cruise aftermath posts about people who "don't deserve oxygen" to quote Ricey and a few others or "Shouldn't have a license" etc.

Though yes I think the hoon law should be abolished as the term "hoon" just seems to feed the media instead of actually accomplishing anything apart from revenue raising, though I doubt it will ever be............

Awesome report.

Apparently dozens of people are killed by 'hoons' here in Australia each year.

You have to love it when "respectable" journalists can get away with making up stats.

60 Minutes, English tabloids, same same.

wadragracing
10-08-2008, 10:21 PM
The most concerning thing about the hype over hoon activity is that it is taking away road safety funding from other factors that affect road safety.

Drink driving is a factor in one in four fatals. Around 200 people die on our roads each year, so let's all it 50 people dying a year from drink driving. Yet it doesn't make the news anymore because it has been replaced by the hoons, probably responsible for < 5 deaths a year.

Thus attention on drink driving falls and you'd assume its rates go up. Sigh.

I don't think it's really politicians' fault either. The media is mainly responsible because of the hype that goes on now. As someone who did a media degree, I'm inclined to say it's just lazy journalism. Hoon stories are much easier to write because it's instant sensation. Much easier than having to go out and do real investigation or real interviews. Sigh again.

we need to get some schooled educated car club members to have one of those damn debate things and raise all of the good points we have. The government have no come back to half of it except to call us dumb bias kids, even though more than half of us are over 20 and probs off our P's. They will never admit that its all for revenue and its too easy for the general public to jump on the bandwagon and ignore the truth :(

because most people don't see houses burgled every night, or people being held up, its in the back of they're minds and they don't face up to the reality of it, unlike dickheads in cars who you will see every time your on the road.

I wish someone had the motivation and initiative to fight back on our behalf :(

IMO the media will always make reports that are negative towards 'hoons'
prehaps having an antilag track day. and holding a bar-b-que, with some proceeds going towards funding drive education.
invite some media along..not sure many would rock up if any. but would possibly start to balance up the hoon negativity and divide the 'hoons' from the enthusiasts.

Brockas

The most concerning thing about the hype over hoon activity is that it is taking away road safety funding from other factors that affect road safety.

You have to be pretty naieve to think the government give two shits about road safety, or the road toll.

It's ALL about cost benefit, and fooling the public into thinking they care.

If some 18yo crashes, with 3 mates in the car, the government can end up paying a substantial amount of money for healthcare and disabilities for 4 people for 50+ years.

That is NOT a bill they want to front.

If some 60 year old crashes, it's usually solo or with 1 passenger. They'll either die in the crash (cheap cheap) or if they do end up disabled they don't end up being a drain on the public slush fund for 50+ years.

Might seem a little 'cold hearted', but it's exactly how it works.

Every decision in politics comes down to money, and power.

NO media would rock up, because it's not sensationalism.

The only way you can fight the negative 'hoon' image is with equally sensationalistic bullshit.

The media wants to portray hoons as gun toting murderers who could kill you in your own street.

You fight it, by portraying the Road Safety Minister as an uncaring money-hungry pensioner-murdering sexual deviant, and as the current policy of 'hoon hunting' as costing the lives of hundreds by neglecting the real issues on the road including "pot holes which may kill your mother".

It can be done, but it'll require a lot of time/money/effort and most importantly, bullshit.

Just reading the transcript of the report on the site....I must have missed this part at the start where he says:

"Souped-up street cars pushed to their limits. In just a few seconds they hit nearly 200km/h"

Almost 200 km/h in a few seconds? Do these pingpingpingpings have any fucking idea??

A Ferrari 599 goes from 0-100 in like what, 6 seconds? These cars are nowhere near the calibre of that.

Do people seriously buy into this shit??

60 minutes is AWESOME journalism - if you hate unbiased reviews that only give you the facts.

I dont want this thread to have any facts, but i think you might be suprised how many cars are well under 6 seconds to 100 if driven properly(any evo/sti/gtr any new V8/f6 etc..) and the fezza would be centainly under 5...

Oh I don't doubt that at all but:

1) The reporter said "in just a few seconds, these cars will get up to almost 200 km/h

2) A Civic is not a GTR or an Evo ;)

My point was the sensationalism and over-exaggeration of the report left me shaking my head.

I don't know the exact number of seconds the ferrari 599 takes to get from 0 to 100....it was a ballpark guess

technically no, its the same as driving while eating/drinking etc. two hands should be on the wheel as much as possible when driving.
truckies/emergency drivers etc generally use hardwired cb's & are given much more leeway
