Highlight what you want off old one, right click, select copy, choose a folder on new one and click paste.
The folder has to have shared privelages setup.
put everythigg you want in the share folder, then from the other computer you should be able to pick them up

You will probably have to move them from the old one to the new one, rather than selecting them from the new one, depending on the permissions and admin rights of the folders.
If you share the folders via windows you should be able to do it from the new one. Depending on how you've set it up.

if 1 is vista, be prepared to open up all the security, just to do what you're saying!

Theres a Product for the noobs made by Belkin that connects to both computers, it installs itself then you follow the prompts. It may be availiable at most large outlets. Does about 30Gb an hour.

I prefer to do things manually but I have used this product and it works!

Depending on how much you've got to transfer, and the speed of the external drive, that can be a very time consuming process.

although slowest external will be easiest however if you know your shit with computers you can turn off that vista permission bulshit by going into user accounts then last option is turn user account controll on off, select off it will restart then goodbye annoying vista pop ups

copy and paste
just install the programs on your new machine then via whatever method you have been using to get the rest of your files just send them from one location to the other
