Is it a PAL or NTSC PS3 ? Did it used to work fine and now has ceased to work correctly?
Try it on another TV and change the settings around.

you have to send it to sony computer entertainment, warranty or not. The guy who repairs Sony gear up the road from me said there the only people authorised to do repairs / look at them.
sounds like its over heating if its displaying artifacts.. try putting it out in the open see if that works.

Call sony up dude, my sony broke after a few months playing it. Wouldn't play any dvd's or games or anything.
Sony will email you a barcode and just take it and your ps3 into aus post and send it off, its free and sony will send you out a repaired ps3 once they find out what went wrong with it. Just make sure you take your games out before hand, as i left my oblivion in there and had to wait a good 2-3 months to get it back:(

there really arent any regions anymore for the PS3 consoles.
even the revised version with smaller hdd etc.
PS3 plays all regions ;)

My ps3 is from Singapore, had no problems with it. The shop I went to was Barhams on Roe St in Northbridge, but they don't repair them, nor have anythign to do with them.
Read this of the Sony website, it may enlighten you:
