View Full Version : Brand New Apexi Boost Gauge WRONG??

As the title suggests, i just bought a brand new apexi EL series boost gauge (mechanical) from nengun and the bloody thing is reading .25 of a bar in the box.

Im assuming this is going to make the gauge read wrong since the gauge's "zero" point is now at .25bar so if i run .5of a bar it will read .75bar.
I sent an email off to nengun saying its wrong and he actually replied back to me saying it quite normal for them not to sit on zero, what a crock of shit. So atm im in between emails, telling him that what he said is a load of shit and i want a new gauge.

Anyway after this rant, im just wondering has anyone else had a simular experience and also is there a place to re-calibrate these things if the guy a nengun is too much of a dipshit? if so how much would it cost??

bloody quality control is shithouse

cheers

i dont think i have ever had a mechanical boost gauge sit on zero, the only mechanical ones i have had were Autometer though, no Jap ones.

so how do they read correctly?

every mechanical gauge i have seen has read zero except one, and i used a second gauge on that car which showed that the gauge was reading incorrectly in boost and vacuum

I've had so many guages that have come off the zero mark, best thing to do is take the guage to AISAT in kewdale.. they calibrate it etc and return it to 0.. i *think* it was like $60?

really? i had my autometer gauge in my celica for 2yrs running 20psi and it was perfect. I would of thought the jap brands would be bloody good??

Either way the one i have is wrong so im gonna bust nengun's balls and worst case senerio i'll give that mob a call. Cheers

what?
I've had apexi, autometer, autogauge mech guages not sitting on 0 which calibrating fixed.

I had a Greddy elec which wouldnt sit on 0 when switched on too, and wouldnt read the same boost reading as what my pfc did, so i took it apart and fixed it myself

i expect over time that the mechanical type gauges may become inaccurate and need re-calibrating but this one is BRAND new, straight out the box

I've had two Autometer boost gauges read off zero. One was only about 2 months old before it went out. It now sits around -10 inHg when the car is off. Yes it does put it out. I contacted Autometer in the US and they said if i was to send it to them they'll return a new one at no cost but i didn't get around to doing it.

My Splitfire gauge which is at least 5 years old has always sat spot on 0. No problems with it.

A pressure gauge simply measures pressure (Kpa etc), so even in the box its measuring the atmospheric pressure. If its not close to zero then your either at the top of Mount Everest or the gauge is dodgy and will always read out.
