I have searched my fuel system from front to back to try find the cause of my fuel surge problem but have come up with nothin, so have decided to chuck an external surge tank in.
I know how to set up a system ie: whats lines where and how to wire up a dirrect 12v line and relay for the pump.
What i would like is some advise on what lifter pump and hi-flow pump i should use and what size surge tank i will need.
Engine is a SR20 with power enterprise 850cc injectors and Stinger ECU.
cheers mike
Walbro lift pump, Bosch 044 main pump.
2 litre tank is common, you can get bigger depending on what you're using the car for.
If the tank is being mounted in the car, make sure you've got teflon lines or it'll smell like a refinery.

just smell... some days i get in my car and its pretty bad... others its fine. i am also used to it now so i dont really notice it. sometimes a mate jumps in and is like...holy shit. smell the fuel.
99% of the time, the teflon lines smell because of the connections on each end of the hose, not the actual hose itself.
Even a small nick in the rubber O-rings or a slightly crimped end from not being installed correctly to the fittings, can cause a smell without a visible leak (because the leak ends up being a miniscule weep, you won't even see the fuel before it evaporates)
Doesn't matter too much about the lift pump flow rate...any excess fuel in the surge tank will go back to the main fuel tank via the return hose which is at the top of the surge tank.

I run stock lift pump, bosch 044, 1.5l ally surge and Speedflow love.
As for wiring, what id do is get yourself a 4 pin 30a relay, run a length of dual core wire to the relay, have this as an ignition live (or if your AM computer has a external fuel pump output) and a earth, and trigger it with the 12v going to your stock pump. That way, you keep the safety features that some cars have (ie if your airflow meter doesnt register, it wont pump fuel ect).

mike the only thing that concerns me is that fact that u cant find the problem so i doubt the surge tank will fix it, may not be a fuel surge problem even?? u may want to look further into the original problem b4 making another one and adding surge tank and more pumps? i mean ur pretty handy with cars and fixing there problems, and if u cant find it i think htere may be a bigger problem there in the first place

yeh i know thats the proper way jarryd hahaha
To b honest there is still a couple other things i can check.
I noticed tonight while i was puttin car away i could hear a slight vacume leak inside the cabin, so i'm wondering if the vacume line runnin to the EMS has come loose or has become pinched somehow. once i get some time i'm gonna b buildin a new engine up anyway so theres no harm in fittin external surge tank set up just now.
