Entry applications are now open for the 2008 Transcore Classic Challenge. 2 days and 3 nights of the best motor sport and social events you can imagine... The thrills of sprints, drags, motorkhanas, superkhanas, speed events and more. Plus great social events, without the hassles of navigation. All in the most affordable touring road rally in Western Australia. The Transcore Classic Challenge offers an exciting mix of competition driving stages over two full days, with an overnight outside the metro area, including a night stage.
With a variety of competitive stages, including some among the state’s leading venues - plus several unique to this event, the Transcore Classic Challenge offers an exciting and challenging weekend of motor sport fun. There’s no need to modify your car, you don’t need a race suit and the event’s ideal for anyone from first-timers to experts.
The format was upgraded last year, to the acclaim of all involved, and was a huge success. And we’ve added more into the mix to keep the event ahead of the rest...
It’s easy to enter. You need 2 people per car (either can drive any stage, but one run per car per stage with multiple runs at some stages), good quality helmets, a first aid kit and fire extinguisher. The Roadbook will give instructions on the route to take between stages and course maps. Places are limited, so act now - so get your entry in! Click HERE (http://www.classicrally.com.au/CC08_Application_Form.htm) for the entry application form.
Results will be calculated on un-handicapped placings this year. There will be plenty of categories for awards, determined by a car’s engine size and year of manufacture. And there’s no mind-bending navigation. Our proven streamlined system ensures minimal queuing (though some is inevitable - and gives a chance to watch previous competitors tackle courses). Our highly experienced team will ensure smooth sailing for all!
Ask anyone who competed last year - and they’re sure to give you very positive remarks. The stages were exciting, the event ran exactly to schedule, we had a great group of participants and variety of cars... Participants will be supplied with detailed Roadbooks each day, giving details of the route between stages, competition course maps and other important information. We expect to have around 25 competitive driving stages this year, including several brand new, exciting stages.
We’re also looking for marshals - if you’d like to volunteer and be close to the action for part or all of the weekend, please contact the rally office.
Three nights and 2 days packed with plenty of action and social activities.
Here’s the timetable:
Friday April 25 (night) -
- Scrutineering & Registration
- Sausage Sizzle
Saturday April 26 -
- Official Start - Perth Motor Show
- Competition stages day & night
- Overnight, party & dinner
Sunday April 27 -
- Competition stages all day
- Awards Presentation party
Spectator stages each day
How much and what's included
For an event with so much packed into 2 days and 3 nights, this rally is unbeatable value. Entering the 2008 rally costs just $1140 per car (2 people) - making it Western Australia’s best value for money Touring Road Rally by far!
We have refined and improved the event - and with the upgrades for 2008, it promises to be better than ever. The event incorporates two full days of competitive driving stages, daily Roadbooks, car competition number door stickers, plus lunches each day, Friday evening Scrutineering & Registration, Saturday evening dinner and party, with plenty of awards given away at the rally Presentation Party on the Sunday night. Plus there’s the fun of competing with a great bunch of fellow competitors, excellent driving roads in the southwest and more.
We limit entries to ensure our timetable can be adhered to during the event. Even if you’re not sure what car you’ll be entering, or who your co-driver will be, apply now to ensure you get a place in 2008’s great rallying event...
Requirements
The Transcore Classic Challenge is a designed to be a very straightforward event to enjoy. Two people must be in the car at all times. All you need is the following:
> A current drivers licence
> AASA Club or CAMS 2SE or higher competition licence (which we can issue - no test involved - $50 for 1 year AASA licence)
> A good quality helmet for each person
The car needs:
> To be in sound and roadworthy condition (cars will be inspected at the Friday night Scrutineering)
> A checked & date-tagged 2kg fire extinguisher (or 2 x 1kg units)
> An approved first aid kit (details to be provided to participants)
Note: There is no requirement for items such as extra bonnet catches, roll-cages, oil catch tanks, race suits, etc.
Accommodation
Because some participants will live close, or have their own accommodation in or near Mandurah, we don’t including the hotel cost in the rally entry fee. We have negotiated special discounted prices if you wish to stay in our Mandurah hotel overnight. Details will be provided with the Event Regulations.

Just to confirm that only one person needs to drive the car for the whole event... correct?

Thats my understanding; and thats how its been run in previous years!

Yeah that's how it was run last year.

Sounds pretty decent for $1100 actually.
If I can't make it this year I'll seriously consider it next year.

$1140 entry fee is awesome value.
What are the tyre requirements ?
I also assume the car has to be able to drive on the road ?
Or trailer between stages is ok ?
Good event for the money but here a few things pissed me off last year:
- organisation was dissapointing - cars running in any order and some running 2 or 3 times before others was frustrating.
- Half the time is spent at Midvale speed dome.
- After the long drive to Mandurah you had to wait 3 hours to do the only (but definately the most fun stage of the wknd) night stage that lasted about 20 seconds.
I am not entering this year but will definately go for a look. If you have not entered too many events before (or even if you had) i definately recomend this one.
FranZ

Tyres requirements are the same for any sprint/autokhana/superkhana - street tyres or approved r comps.
The car has to be driven around - thats really the purpose of the co-driver - to navigate the transport sections. Traillering between stages I would imagine would become rather cumbersome and annoying. If the car isn't registered (and I would suggest double checking with AEM) get a permit for the weekend.
Re: organisation, I have emailed Paul Blank about this and he assures me it will improve from last year.
I also mentioned at how disappointed I was to drive all the way to Mandurah to spectate a 20sec stage that was only run once. His reply was that was by far the shortest stage last year. It was decided to be short and only run once as they were not sure that they could get the carpark cleared in time, barriers up and filled with water etc. The other concern they had was if it ran too late, then the dinner event after that stage would be affected too. They obviously have since learned that there is enough time and they will either make the stage longer or have it run twice. This will make it more entertaining for both spectators and competitors.

Good event for the money for sure!
I will be spectating this year though!
And yeah too much is held at Midland they should try for more at the AHG where you can open it right up safely!

Popped out to the galleria section. Looked like a crazy course, big bumps getting cars airbourne and lots of poles that seemed to be magnatised !
Got there a bit late but so missed most the action :(
Did get a couple vids I'll put on youtubes later :)

Cheers to all the guys that came down and supported the event and us. That Galleria stage was pretty full on, after the launch bouncing up and down and trying to work out where to brake and where to turn was full on. My Dad who was acting as my ballast/navigator was completely disorientated!
I had an up and down weekend; big mistake on Saturday cost me alot of time and provided me a handling headache all weekend. My cf lip died an unfortunate but spectacular death! All I can say is that the event is alot of fun and its a well run event. Alot of the stages we'd arrive and only have enough time to put your helmet on and you're off - no long queues and wait times like previous years! Biggest drawcard is being able to take a passenger with you, something you pretty much don't get to do anymore.
Just got home from presentations.... Evo's 1st, 2nd and 3rd outright! :) ...not sure where the quickest WRX finished... results will be posted on the classicrally.com.au website in the next couple of days!
And where did your Evo come Franz?

Event Seemed to run pretty smooth, no waiting whatsoever, Franz your run looked very quick and clean ;)
Sooo many loose LSD centres (or Open centres?) in some of the 2wd cars however, going around spinning the inside wheels going nowhere until they were straight.......

I wasnt in the car Tj , old owner used it as his new car failed saturday ..
As for the poles they no different to all the other solid objects that were around the courses .. poles , trees , concrete walls , kerbs claimed a few cars
Of course, a solid object is a solid object is a solid object.
But youd think the organisers would try to minimize risk.
