Hey all,

Got the clutch replaced on my SR 180 today and the guy at the workshop took the box out an apparently there's metal floating around in it.....So I need to get a new box and Im after a bit of info.

Did a bit of a search but nobody really came to a consensus.
1. How much does a SR gearbox cost?
2. How much does a RB25 gearbox cost?
3. What needs to be changed or modified to put a 25 box in?
4. Where can I get a new box?

Also heard that the RB25 gearbox has different gear ratio's. How does this affect the cars driving? Is it less responsive down low?

Thanks all.

metal chunks or just metalic oil?

metalic gearbox oil i wouldnt worry about, just means it hasnt been changed in a while. If theres chunks coming out then i would be concerned. How does your current box feel? does it crunch? does it select all gears?

You can get adaptors to make the rb gtst box bolt up but you'll need a custom tailshaft to make it all fit. The rb box is stronger but it all depends how much power your pumping out and if its actually worth you going down that road.

Second hand boxes both rb and sr are quite easy to come by, if you need one asap then you'll pay top $, but if yours is still driveable, look around and you'll get one at the right price.

Also consider rebuilding your current box, at the end of the day with second hand boxes you tend to buy someone elses problems, and for a simular cost you could get yours freshened up and then you'll have peice of mind aswell.

Yeah there are metal chunckes that have come out of the box.
Looking at getting a box from somewhere with a warranty. Any suggestions?
Who do people recommend to get the box reconditioned?

i've never had to have a gearbox rebuilt here in perth, im sure someone else has had previous experiences with some companys, i would hit up the yellow pages and just ring around and pick a place i would be happy with.

Warranty and performance doesnt tend to go hand in hand. From my experience people just start making excuses saying it was "mistreated" or "trashed" and try to wesel their way out warrenties, its more like if it drives out the door fine then thats your warrenty. Companys tend to say they offer warrenties, but with a performance oriented car, just watch them backflip when you show them a problem. Thats half the reason why you shouldnt just go with a company cause they are cheap, go with a place with a good rep that you feel comfortable with otherwise its just headaches.

(i had a gearbox rebuilt 5 times under warrenty and it was never right so thats why im ranting lol)

VG30 box will hold anything you can throw at it, probably be that much cheaper for a complete rebuild back to stock specs.

Try Ben at KYP on 94703828. He stocks a lot of second hand SR parts for a reasonable price.
