I dont see why the VL Turbo isnt considered as high among lovers of turbos, if you compare the VL Calais to most other turboed cars in the mid to late 80s, it had and still has lots of potential with the RB30ET donk.

I dont know of any streetable RB20s or RB25s doing 9-10sec passes especially over east where the SOHC RB30ET dominates.

all electrics and a/c, nissan motor, and, in my opinion, still one of the best looking Holdens made, I definately enjoyed my turbo VL so whats so bad about them when comparing them to R31 Skylines and the like of the mid 80s?

For some real world infomation, my 2 close mates have Gen 3 commodores. One has a VY SV8 auto and the other has a HSV VT II clubsport R8 250kw.
They both raced yesterday at the Sunday drags at the motorplex.

VY SV8 auto = 14.3
R8 Clubsport = 13.6

Both TOTALY standard with No mods whatsoever.

Ohh yeah and mid high 14s for a stock R32? Best ive seen is 15s with exhaust and pods. Maybe 14s for intercooled, exhaust and pod.

But yeah, i cant compete with the magazines. And its not like ive ever been down a drag strip myself and ran 12s before.

Correction, since 99% of the R32s in australia are imports (except the aussie released 91 gtrs), theres definatly more 32's than FC's. IMHO Jess's VL would have to be the nicest vl's i have seen going round, but maybe im a bit biased hahaha. Go team green.

One thing to note about the amount of VL turbos overeast that are running consistently sub-10 sec passes, is that alot of them are running standard wheel tubs and full interiors (show full show quality ones as well). And most of em are RB30's (though usually run twin cam heads, though not always. Im not too aware of many other cars able to run 8 sec passes on standard tubs with RWD and in full street trim ?

As for commodores being "family cars", that just makes it all the better when u get chopped in ur import car by a "family car". There are sum very quick and very streetable Gen 3 commodores out there, for a standard "family" car all they need is decent cam/head package and they do easy 11's. Hell one standard stroke n/a gen3 just broke into the 10's. Though personally id prefer the aussie built v8.

It was done on : stock dump, and aus spec 31 na exhaust, no clutch, no fuel pump, no cooler, misfiring coilpack - all since fixed. I pray to allah, buddah and nismo i crack a 14.99 with these mods and a spool. it might even go 99 mph now, which would be crazzzzzzzzzzy !

My car isnt god, but im not afraid to use it, and anyone who knows me knows it gets belted hard. Not afraid to make a call and back it up, or at least try to back it up. Better then the call of :your cars a piece of shit i would chop it: then these words are refused to be backed up because im not worth the fuel , apparently.

Jess - the only place you would beat me is off the line - quite easy to spool an auto up and go with big fat rubber, not easy to put shit rubber down with one wheel going nuts. Even after you fix the issues it has - a slight lack of compression in one cylinder and an slipping auto wont bring the difference back. Spose thats what happens when you buy a car with an na engine with a turbo bolted onto it with a stock na auto box - cant handle the boost - did the ex owner forget to mention these facts to street commodores and you? Nevertheless it has good body, paint and interior, a much better car then you used to have

Pete - your car weighs a little more then mine - probobly more again with those rims on. It made, with cooler , zorst and safc tune, 216 rwhp. My car, without a single mod at all, made 240 rwhp. Ive since added a 3inch turbo back , 500hp walbro fuel pump , fmic, and twin plate clutch - so id say its got a tiny bit more now, maybe 245 rwhp. On the basis of power to weight, id say your fucked on. This isnt a go , this is pure fact, and if your living with the dream of thinking you would beat me, think again. Like i said, walk in the park. Remeber ive been for a ride in it too, so i know what it goes like. Once again your saving grace would be wide rubber and auto gearbox Regardless, its a clean turbo car, and that means i like it.

tj its a bt1 mate it says it on the compliance plates therefore its a turbo motor stock, also bt1's have rear disk brakes, normal n/a commodores have drums, it also has turbo front brakes which bt1's also have, there is also a reciept from the previous owner for purchase of the bt1 from a yard, therefore proving you wrong
