View Full Version : Time to show that we care......
As per usual , i dream up alot of crap.
This time, i think ive done the right thing though.
http://www.7perth.com.au/7perth/prog/OpenDocument.cgi?id=4XMNP651HD6Z
Telethon - you know the once yearly event that allows Western Australians to raise money for sick children in PMH. I think no matter how apathetic someone is, this is a cause we cannot look past. I for one had my sisters life saved by the doctors there, so I have personal desire for success in this
So what im proposing is a cruise for Telethon on the sunday of Telethon- obviously its going to involve each car paying some sort of few to cruise, and other fundraising activites, all which will be confirmed in due course.
However, knowing how cool all of perths car scene is, ive asked / will be asking other clubs in perth to band together for the cause. Antilag cruise for charity = good - 5/6 club cruise for charity = awesome. we could do something really good for the community here.
So therefore its not going to be known as any sort of club cruise, but will be an combination of several clubs
ive so far asked
silvia wa - via josh and ryan - both are keen
team integrated - via igs aka hondaboy - he is keen
sau via paul aka gtst vspec
im about to ask ppcc and perth wrx within the next day or so
i think this could be an awesome event and a positive thing for the car scene in general.
we would be doing this as a proper telethon event, so standards of driving would have to be adhered too.
This is an early stage post, kinda to help me get my / our ideas out and to see what type of reaction there is to this

help out the kids
and it might help the rep of import drivers if we all act sensible
I went to pmh when i was young cause i picked up some plastic rollerskates that were in a bon fire and they melted onto my hand. Was not good but they fixed me up good and proper so im all keen for that

thats what i was thinking too
as long as no fuckheads decide to put on their own show involving smoke and sideways action, its quite a big statement from the modified car scene.

I think this is a good idea, I think this would be a great way to promote not only antilag, but also the modified car scene in general. And, if people refrained from being idiots on the road on this cruise, it'd also look good for the scene. It would pertray a good image. Not only does this do us good, it also does the kids good. I was involved with PMH when I was young, so I'd be willing to help out, and do whatever I could as my little bit.
excellent idea...get some banners or something made up to go on the front and rear cars to advertise what it is that happening would be a good idea aswell

I think this is a really good idea in theory but I think that you will always get the odd moron bogan or show off who doesn't use the small amount of grey matter that he was given, and hooks a few nuts thinking he is cool, and ruins it for everyone.
I'd probably still give it a go though...

yeah this is a wicked idea, hahah you never know... if we did it right and went through the right channels, we could even get a police escort so we dont get broken up at traffic lights :P
if nothing bad happens on the cruise, this would be a big boost for the modified car scene in perth, and hey im willing to pay a good cruise fee, chuck in some donations and get a gutfull of food :D
haha thought of something better... get an ambulance escort instead of police lol

definately a good idea. i think the car scene is in desperate need of something like this. and a police escort actually isn't as dumb an idea as it sounds as long as they don't go handing out yellows left right and centre. that'd also keep away a lot of the trevs i'd imagine. If this is promoted properly before the event a)it'd raise a lot of funds for a decent cause and b) the general public probably wouldn't think of us as such a bunch of tools.
i'd be willing to help organise anything

i honelsty think get the cops involved.... i know alot of ppl here drive illegally modified cars (wether it be loud exhaust etc) but if we actually approach them and ask them to attend a cruise - then this could put a big dent in the cops vs "hoons" theory and maybe we could just get something out of this for once...
the main priority here is for the kids of PMH... but shit needs to be sorted prior to the cruise (cops etc) in order for this to work so it bennefits PMH.

I think u need to get a sticker for all the cars who have PAID to be on the cruise, and also get the cops involved so that they know that the people with a sticker are actually on the legit cruise. And if we see one car with an Antilag.com sticker, or the official telethon sticker doing anything wrong, the whole car scene will take a mark against our name, and they will be asked to leave IMMEDIATELY from the cruise, after removing both sticker from their vehicle.
The whole thing is a big risk, but having the cops there (if they agree not to sticker us all) will keep the wrong doers away, so if they are thinking about doing anything wrong, they needn't bother fronting up.
We can raise the money easily, thats no issue. Maybe try to arrange a bit of a "show" at an oval somewhere, just park up there for an hour or so in some form of ORGANISED parking (this'll be the toughest part for most people lol), while we all grab some lunch, and let anyone whose keen have a look around. No doubt if we do this, we'll get a mention at Telethon, becoz any such crowd of 100 people, getting together to raise money for it, gets a bit of a showing.
This was an idea of mine ages ago that i suggested to TJ, to cruise for charity. But we have to make sure its done properly, becoz if we don't have the cops there, the yobbo's will turn up, the whole thing will turn to shit, and we'll be made to look worse than we do now as "car hoons".
I'll be there in errrr, something NISSAN, catchas

yeah but how stupid or arrogant would they look if they decided to defect or setup a defect testing station. the media would probably have a field day if they did. and the report would read something like "here are people trying to raise funds for children and obeying the law yet targeted by police because vehicles "may" be defective. personally if it did happen i think channel 7 would be quite pissed of as well as it would tarnish the image of telethon as well.

have pauly and tj hold hands act like a couple and present the money to them on the air.

I'm in for sure. Just got referred to this club by a mate and i'm impressed already. Even tho i'm a poor student, i wouldn't mind donating like $10 to go on a cruise or sumthin especially when it's for telethon. $10 might sound stingey but make it too expensive and people aren't going to come. Better to use the Maccas principle, make it cheap and sell lots of it.
I like the idea of cops there, most sensible people know how to behave themselves on a cruise and as long as they didn't defect me 4 my BOV I'd be happy to have an escort.
As for the identification idea, what about one of those markers they use on windows at drag meets, every car thats paid gets it's rego takes down, then a big ass number on the back window and small ones around the front and sides. Maybe even an abreviation of the car club the member is a part of. Would be a great scene and make cheating the system a little harder.

Good idea Nsanity.
Brockas good of you to suggest, but ya can't have something thats easy to copy by yobs that aren't on the cruise. Custom stickers only made and sold for the event won't be able to get copied and everyone has their club stickers on their cars already.
Just so long as we get a setup at the final meetpoint, throw up the Anitlag.com banner, and everyone elses banners. Make that sorta the "point" to give the presentation. Even run it like the old "40 Hour Famine" get people to sponsor/make a donation for your car in the cruise. Coupla extra stickers on for the day, coupla extra bucks to throw in for Telethon. Just a thought, i think your right TJ, don't go huge. but things like taking kids with ya has been done before i think. See yaz there
dorisaur
17-09-2004, 11:41 AM
Are you guys going to do this or is it all just wank?
The plex apparently has an arrangement with the popo that states that i think no cops can sit along the way of ankatell road unless it is on their normal route, or thats what i have heard. A Popo escort is deffinatly the way to go, even if it was just liek 4 bikes or something.
This would be fucking cool and if you guys(Antilag/SAU) need me to help you know where to find me.
Im thinking the Sticker needs to be bright pink or bright yellow and the same size as a canary for a laugh, so we can all drive along looking like we have yellow's but in truth it says cruise for the kids or whatever.
Maybe we could even do a driveby on the 7 Studio's or something, they always have huge lines of people waiting out the front to go inside for the entertainment so it might be an idea to give them some entertainment while they wait(Gated burnouts, YES!!(lol)) Or atleast there were assloads of people out the front when i worked there a few years ago.
So yeah, if you need/want a hand let me know.

dorisaur
17-09-2004, 05:05 PM
But past the studio's fuck parking there, imean what are you gonna do when you get there..
I like the massive saussage sizzle idea on an oval, maybe open to the public aswell so that we can:
1) get more for the kids
2) Show how nice us "hoons" really are
That would work really well. Maybe what we need to do is for each club to have a cruise before the main one and take money from "Entrants" in advance so things like the saussage sizzle dont have to be paid for out of someones own posket straight up.
Also if we could get a small peice in the motoring section(events or whatever) of the news paper, saying about how it is a minishow and saussage sizzle or somethign would work wonders.
1) more money for the kids
2) high public awareness of how social car enthusiasts really are

i might ring groove fm, but, would you rather the money went to Groove or telethon ? for $50 a car, how much of that do you reckons going to telethon ?. I'll ring em anyway, but i reckon we'll get more money to the right place.

Yeah by the sounds of the info i just got, theres a lot of companies involved in this "other" cruise, and they are all going to be wanting a cut, its being held on October 24th, and has apparently been in planning "for months" (i reckon they stole TJs idea..)
But fuck em. I reckon we can do it better.
hey ppl
this sounds really good! i'll get my crew Khaos Raidaz to Anticipate and donate some $$ for the kids
looking forward to it
OMFG...the "khaos Raidaz"?? ha ha ha ha

I think telethon will be getting enough money from this and the TV shows etc ...... Plus its not only going to be done by Antilag but Groove n co ..... I think maybe its time that maybe we should do something to benefit a more smaller and needy charity.
tj's 31 fund?
ok , im thinking if someone else is doing a cruise, maybe its the go - why fight over it , lets just share the love
on the other hand, who is getting the money here? groove or the kids?

Nah id imagine that the premotional agency thats putting it on Rumpshakin or whatever its called will be taking a cut in advertising n promotional fees - i dont think Groove would get much out of it apart from kinda the advertising.

Thats what I was thinking as well. I doubt every cent they make will be going to telethon, whereas we will be covering some suasages, and the rest will go to telethon.
Ps, could you move the discussion to http://jester.egn.com.au/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi

Maybe we should help the kids in some charities that dont get so many hand outs:
Juvenile Diabetes
CanTEEN
etc
Just once the other guys do their cruise - then the cruise for Telethon will have been DONE ....therefore not arousing much interest in the general public ..... be a case of "Oh not another one for telethon"
Cold Fusion

if we do "smaller" charities then we could build up to differnt ones and like start off small, then work our way up to a huge one for a charaty. so something like canTEEN or something would be good as a starter to get the hang of it :P
:S dont mind me, im crazy

does anyone else think that the chanel 7/groove one is rediculously expensive? $50 per car is huge for a cruise, even for charity..... hell people were whingeing about $2 for the last antilag cruise (i was to tool handing out the maps).
from what i see, the promoters (chanel 7/groove/whoever else) must be trying to turn a profit out of this and as far as i care thats really effing crap on their behalf, we donate money for charity and they try to make money out of it. the advertising and promotions they're doing aren't that expenseive (i know, i'm an advertising student). if i'm right, and i really hope i'm not, there are a few people that need to do some serious thinking about what they're doing. i know it takes HEAPS of organising to get an event like this together but will it really cost them $25,000when its being done FOR CHARITY?
i'm happy to pay around the $20 mark but if its $50 they're not going to get that 500 cars thats being chased. i'd say that a lot of people just wouldn't be able to afford that much especially seeings as a lot of us are uni students making bugger all money.
just a disclaimer: i'm not bagging the cruise, i think its a great idea, and i really relly hope it goes ahead and is a great bbig hheeeeeeeuge success, i just think that a compulsory ammount set that high is a really bad idea. a minimum donation for $10-$20 would be good, some people are always going to go above that ammount, they're probably going to get more money by doing it this way imo.
end of rant

I'm not sure on the details for this GrooveFM/Channel 7 cruise, and trying not to go to much into detail, theres other things to consider when 2 registered businesses such as the above mentioned plan an event like this, such as public liability, insurance, etc...
I've worked with Groove FM before, and i know they definately don't 'profit' from any of the events they do, and again, working with Telethon for about 4 years, I see little that Channel 7 could get out of it either. Even if they did try and profit out of it, it wouldn't be worth the negative attention it could attract to the station and Telethon, they'd only get a few grand out of it, and that pocket change next to a multi-million dollar corporation.
Either way I'm gonna get some more info on this.

well guys n girls i think we need to make this happen. I say $10-15 per car, and have some people at each catch up point with tins to collect more donations (preferable scantily clad ladies, but thats coz i have a 1 track mind :P )
If groove do a cruise... good on em, more money for the kids... coz thats why were doing this. Some people cant afford to spend $50 for a cruise, but $10-15 is ok,... its all going to the same place in the end, and there thankful for any amount of money.
So lets get this ball rolling... first we need a rough estimate on numbers.. if its going to pose a traffic hazard than the authorities need to be alerted so a possible escort can be organised (sooner rather than later), we need people to bring cameras and possibly get some coverage from channel 7.
im not a leader but this post is starting to repeat itself, so im giving it a helpful push in the right direction.
Over to you now TJ :P

the telethon is being held over the weekend saturday 6th - sunday 7th of november this year.
an event similar to this was organised december last year by rotorheads in perth club, with a turnout of about 40 cars. sponsors were organised and prizes for a raffle were also organised(they had an entry fee for the cruise which also gave u a ticket in a raffle). might B good if u could get sum sticker making joint to sponsor 4 the "kids PMH cruise" stickers.
Thanks for the mention Ratus....it will be on again this year some other forums have posts, but for the teleton cruise lets do it.
This cruise is cutting it fine, however I do have a contact at the PMH which would get the paperwork which is needed for such an event, and I also have a list of large carparks that can hold 500+ cars for start/re-groups, again some may need a contact made with the owner which I am more than willing to help with.

Public Liability is a joke as an event like this would cost thousands, and would rather see ALL money paid as entry fees/raffle etc go to charity and not a BS insurance company.
Our Christmas Cruise for a Cause last year used a simple "disclaimer" which entrants signed.

sent this pm to tj on wednesday..
(slightly edited)
if you've been wondering where I have been, i moved house over the weekend and thus have no interweb.
Have you made a route for the cruise ? I want to tell the police when and where we are going, I think they want to know what stations to involve.
Just got off the phone to telethon, there are several things we need to do
first off, to get some camera time, we would have needed to notify them at least 2 months before the event, all camera crews are booked for the whole telethon period. of course we can always film it ourselves and send it in to channel 7 or drivetime TV or something at a later date ? or maybe even organise it for the weekend after telethon ?
next, if we are going to be using the word "telethon" and claim to be fundrasing for them, we need to seek approval from the marketing manager in written form (ive got their fax number here), this will help legitimise the whole event.
I'm still happy to go ahead and organise some more gear, I'm going to ask my boss in the next day or two if he will sponsor the meat and bread for the BBQ, and i need to know rough numbers soon to get the stickers printed & order enough meat. If you've got a map i can also print out a few hundred here.
Let me know what you decide
Matthew
I've got a company willing to print the stickets for free, I can probably convince my work to pay for the bbq gear, I'm shit at making maps so we need that.
Its not gunna be televiesd, which i think was one of the main reasons, to prove we're not all hoons to the greater public, but i believe if we go ahead with the event and record it ourselves, we can get it shown on the news, or maybe even today tonight.
let me know your thoughts on the matter

lets advertise
you know how many uni students (especially at curtin) have nice cars?
imagine if we could get more people involved, imagine how much money we could raise, and then it will give us a better name
and THEN cruising will be MUCH easier in the future...or less difficult (hopefully ) :P
so LETS advertise
:)

also, maybe we should make this into an annual thing
so each year (maybe once or twice)
we have a cruise for charity, each year we could choose a different charity
what do you guys think?
then we can try to maintain our reputation :boink:

Hey fellas im pretty new to the site.
Sounds like your doing this for a pretty good cause. My step dad happens to be the managing director of 7 perth and the organiser of telethon every year. If your pretty serious about this I could give you some details to contact him if need be.

Hi Skyline
yeah details would be awesome if you could :) :)
im pretty sure everyone is serious about this.
im not sure how quickly we will be able to organise this in 2 weeks, but we can at least try! and at least we can raise a bit of money
and maybe next year with more time to plan we can raise even more money!!!

if you guys agree to the advertising, (posters at uni's are generally free)
someone needs to be spokesperson in case ppl want to sms/email/call about details etc
so, who would like that responsibility?
TEEJAY??? :)
also, we will need a rep for each uni to put up posters
times running out guys...
