Recieved from our host:

"Due to space and power constraints in our primary datacenter we are movingthe entire shared cluster “spacey” to our LAX facility at 10:00PM PST (GMT- 8), two weeks from today, Friday, November 30th 2007.

All webservers, mail servers, file servers, and MySQL servers in the spacey cluster willbe unreachable during the move, which we expect to take approximately 8 hours. Receiving this email means the downtime window will affect your site(s).

We do apologize for this inconvenience. Rest assured we will do everythingpossible to keep downtime to a minimum. If you have any questions regarding the server move, please contact oursupport team. "

So sometime on a friday night the site will be down for 8 hours or so. Not much I can do about it unfortunately.

Hope you all enjoyed the downtime.

We are back up and running, and I'm assured by our host that this maintenance should make the site more reliable.

Some avatars will be affected until we sort out an issue with the server.

Basically some of the coding is wrong and it's putting a huge drain on it.

Will try and fix this shortly.

Ok, we're going to need everyone to host their own avatars for the time being.

This is pretty simple:

go to - www.tinypic.com

upload the picture from your computer

copy the "direct link for layouts" code

On this site go to "quick links" --> "edit profile" --> "edit avatar"

then paste that code into where it says "Enter URL to Image".

Once plenty of people have done this, we can re-enable the image.php file on our server.

Cheers.

does it have to be tiny pic. gave it a shot with photobucket. but no love....

Kilma

Should work in photobucket as well. Did you use the [img] tags, or just the url?

Skitzo
18-12-2007, 11:52 AM
just the URL... then it just came up with a box saying custom avatar or something. tried using the default drift one. but that didnt work either.

Brockas

It wont work until we re-enable the image.php file.

We can't do that until people change their avatar's to a link instead of being hosted by our server.

It wont appear to have worked until we re-enable the file.

oh ok... i getchya.. just that some peoples were working and thought that that was cause they had done it.

Can you not just go through and do a mass delete of them as admin just to get them back, and then people can go put their oen ones back up?

Just a suggestion.

We could, but sometimes this server would be the only place you could find a copy of the avatar, so people need to save it and then remove it, or whatever.

I could go through and delete everyones but i'd get people asking me for a copy of them.

Brockas

Plus at the moment there doesn't seem to be an option to reset everyone's avatar, which would mean going through and individually removing each members avatar.

Would take hours!

Kilma

If you can't see it, how can you save it? People wouldn't be able to save them as they currently are anyway.

Fair enough Brockas. Keeping in mind I don't know anything about board admins etc., I would have thought there would be a mass delete in the options somewhere. It appears I thought wrong... again. :(

Doesn't work for me either. Anyway, I've disabled mine just then.

Just give it a try Paul and see what happens. If it doesn't work, shut it down and try and get more people to disable or switch to remote hosting.

Brockas
24-12-2007, 01:28 PM
Ok I'll re-enable avatars, just need people to host them on tinypic once I do, otherwise the load on the server will be too great and we will experience downtime again.

Cheers!
