Fantastic if it happens :D

160km is only an hour and half odd of driving, would make for a great day trip.

It's got good council support, the only complaints there have been is that it might affect the Collie track, which I don't think is really a viable argument.
Also good that it will have a drag strip (I like it anyway haha), especially as Collie has never made full use of its strip.
I think the graphic used in that article is an older one, as it shows the field day site.

I'll have words with Mr McKay about that!

Greg Ross from Dowerin Events Management was interviewed on 6PR on Saturday night. He was in Adelaide to meet with CAMS over the weekend.
The track will be built to V8 Supercar specs, and will be between 11 and 12 metres wide. It will be 2.5/3km long and visible from most places. Apparently similar to Lakeside in lay out. A "fast track" in his words. It will have the ability to be separated into two smaller tracks that can run at once, mainly for things like drive training.
A drag strip is in the works for stage two, but requires some land to be bought next door first. There may be eighth mile drags using the main straight until then.
Predicted opening date is October/November 2009. :)

from what i heard last it'd gotten caught up in a whole lot of red tape bullshit and hasn't really progressed any further. i'm sure if anything was happening then we would have heard about it by now

Like the "other" motorsport venue that was supoposed to be in Perth, later in Bunbury ... its all a big failboat. Not only will the govt's not do anything, it wont make it easy, and too many promises / hopes are raised before anything is ever set in concrete.

I spoke to one of Dowerin car club dudes at the Classic car show the other weekend and he said they were waiting on the government for funding but the bushfires in Vic appeal have taken priority so the money went there instead. Just a delay for them he said. Otherwise it was all a go ahead.
