very nice, who's going to see machine head next month?

Where and what date?

I went to their last gig, which was awesome sepultura/metallica/pantera medley was tops, besides them having the worst supporting act ever.

Flexability and dynamics is key to a GREAT drummer - speed is far from the standard, check out these masters:

Virgil Donati - regarded as the best - and australian
(remember southern sons LOL)
http://youtube.com/watch?v=inhckpMxxdo
check out his album 'serious little insects' by 'on the virg'
HE IS THE MASTER!!!

Terry Bozzio
early days: http://youtube.com/watch?v=Gzt6PwuQABk&mode=related&search=
vs chad wakerman:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=563Joj7DoD0&mode=related&search=
check out his album 'black light syndrome' by 'bozzio/levins/stevens'

Tony Royster Jnr - born with sticks in his hand - modern day protege!
http://youtube.com/watch?v=oGsd1kiwZ38&mode=related&search=

Tim 'herb' Alexander - ex primus drummer
http://youtube.com/watch?v=Y2vGMHjMjKA&mode=related&search=
check out a collaboration he did with alex skolnic for 'attention deficit' awesome album

Charlie Benante and John Tempest Dual:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=Mft7WTtshKU

Charlie was reknown for having the fastest legs in his day - check out a classic Anthrax track called 'gungho' and 'a skeleton in the closet'
One of my all time favourite metal drummers but im biased cause im a huge
anthrax fan.

speaking of fast feet....Dave Lombardo from Slayer
listen to Reign in Blood....nuff said!!

Morgan Rose of Sevendust has a very different style, very hard hitter and awesome backing vocals in amongst it, impressive stuff!

Pete Sandoval of Morbid Angel, pretty fast and NO EFFECTS!!

Neil Peart - been around a long time and one of the original speed drummers in a non metal sense.

Fuck Tony Royster Jr. is a freak, so much control, ever see those vids he done with Chambers, Jamie?

My favourtie drummer to watch would be Abe Cunningham from deftones, not that he is all that technical, but just plays fucking hard

Virgil is the king, he adapts to anything and honestly is one with the kit.

He meditates in the kit cage to share aura in his environment. He's THAT keen
on perfection. I went to a drum clinic he did many years ago, and draw dropping just doesnt do the talent justice.

From a drummers perspective he practised the entire list of rudiments for hands and adapted them in reverse, with both feet, and alternating between all four limbs, then layer it - fucking insane!

The problem with black metal/death metal drummers when doing blast beats they cant keep the Snare hit as hard all the time you listen to a few bands doing blast beats the snare goes from a hard smack to a light tap..

Now i havent looked at any other videos that have been posted up ie links to youtube in this thread

the drummer from Nile - Death Metal band they came to Perth a few months back now, unlucky to miss them but ah well anyway the drummer george kollias has the fastest feet i have ever seen

He does drum clinics etc here are few videos

Having said that speed isnt always what makes a good drummer Mike Portnoy from dream theater has to be up there in my own personal favorite drummers of all time.
mike portnoy vid -
http://youtube.com/watch?v=TCF2Tst-ohw

Dave Lombardo he is a good drummer suits the band but for speed george kollias absoultely kills him lol

Another one of my favorite drummers of all time i dont know how no ones mentioned it Dave Grohl in his Nirvana yrs thats a good guy to watch if u wanna see someone hit drums hard

coming back to what i was saying about drummers not able to keep the snare intensity up and hitting it as hard as u would usually, Mike Smith from Suffocation is a good example of how to keep the snare intensity up while doing blast beats, The faster some drummers play the lighter they play but with Mike Smith he keeps hitting them as hard if not harder when playing fast. drums are ment to be hit so no point tapping them lol

I dont play drums btw just going off what ive been told/learnt myself, Actually play bass but bass guitarists are another thing totally together :) cliff burton > all
