Fellas, need some input as to your experiences with aftermarket ECU's. Ill be running a 13b turbo in a s5 rx7, and from what ive heard, microtech seems to be the way to go. However alot of the rx7 guys in amercia tend to favour the haltech... Any opinions? Any other ECUs that might be the go??? cheers

Microtech, cheap, easy to tune, made in aus
almost everyone has had experience tuning them. and the are adapted very well to the 13bt

Haltech to the last bone in my body, unless you get a Motec.
I want Motec.
If I get one, I'll cut you a deal on a used Power FC.

Microtech - see the boys at Rotamotion.
Personally I would go the Wolf V4 - more map points and more features. Steve at SST is your man for this.

Yeh that sounds like the consensus ive been getting... if i didnt get microtech, id probably go power FC, so if ure selling Walrus, hit me up for sure...
Secondly, what sort of price range am i looking at, for a base model microtech and tuning, i just want fuel and ignition REALLY because i already have a electronic dual solenoid boost controller.
cheers fellas

with coils the ltx-8 is about 1500$, but u can go the mtx-8, the only diffrence is that the mtx-8 isnt laptop programable, ie u use the hand set.
there are always 2nd hand microtech's up for sale, a good place to loom with ausrotary.com
tune is cheap as chips, my mate WRX_ETA on here, got his 13bt rx3 tuned for 80$ by mic from formaz.

steve in the rotary aplication, do u have to use aftermarket coils as the microtech ?
SST Steve

Steve just asking, why is haltech bad? I run a haltech e6k and while its no motec its much better than my stock gze ecu which was running a turbo setup so yeah haha...
Seriously though it seems ok for me and ive had it for about 6 months now...

Haltechs work fine but we had half of the units fail and very long waits for repairs, even now we have a dead E6K in the shop.Haltech send many failed ECUs back saying that theirs nothing wrong with them even when their was.One guys Skyline had an E6K sold and fitted by a dealer that was faulty,we sent it over and after 6 weeks the customer rang Haltech realy pissed of and they said that theirs 62 units in for repairs in front of his leaving the guy thinking should they be telling him this fact.Any way I've heard that their under new management now so things may get better.
A working Haltech is a fine thing.

Geez... thats not very good at all haha..
I do note that when i got my trim controller and ignition module ordered it took weeks to get them to me with lots of excuses. Oh well hopefully with new management they can improve :)
ho neds to advertise...Ma seems to have the jod down pack for us!!
I'll stick with the old man on the Wolf thing! Not only coz of who he is but dealing with some people involved behind some ECU's and suppliers of the ECU and users, there seems to be adequate interest in the Wolf and most people that I've met have them or they have a piggy back computer instead!

I'd also say Haltech if it wasn't for the extremely poor after-sales support.
Microtech is tried and proven, but it all depends how you want the car to behave on the road. The higher the resolution, the better the car will behave. Microtech is easy to tune because there aren't many points to set. This also means the cars chew a lot of fuel and aren't the nicest to drive on the road.

The Wolf has Resolution, try 2048 sites.
ND4SPD says it all. Huge power no ignition or injector control problems like the other Hi output local GTRs and the car drives sweet and uses less fuel than when the car was standard.Ask Ant.

Yeah I know the Wolf has good resolution. I was simply comparing the units he was originally asking about.

a computer is as good as its tuned and as good as the tuner :).
u no microtechs work on rotories.
i have a microtech and i love it cept it has shit cold start and doesnt idle does now but at 1400 rpm.( i can fix it in matrix mode but cant be fuked) and remeber microtechs do fuk all but just run the car with one aux output.
ive got a new e6x but havent instaled it yet.
it will be better than the microtech with more options and more aux input/outputs

I'm running a Microtech ltx-8 on my 180sx, it controls 1000cc injectors quite easily, my fuel economy is good the the car drives very smoothly. They are good value for the money, and are also well proven on rotaries.
