Well, decided that the stock brakes on the pulsar were just too pissy to do anything useful, and since the car will be seeing wanneroo again soon, time for an upgrade!

Stock n14 single piston caliper, with a 252mm x 20mm rotor

in wheel:

no wheel:

So i contact my good friend Neil at RaceBrakesWa (many around here know he is THE brake guy in WA), and look at my options

1)r32/z32 : 4 piston, not good for FWD wheel clearance, hubs need modifcation, and only 280mm rotor
2)wilwood kit: not the best design, and no real local support, and again, only 280mm rotor
3)custom Racebrakes kit as follows

New setup consists of twin piston c4 corvette calipers (also used in various holdens, VN group A, VR GTS etc), with 330x 26mm rotors.
Also the kit comes with pads to suit, and ADR approved Goodridge braided brake lines.

Heres a comparo pic of rotors:

calipers and rotors:

braided lines:

and finally, a couple of shots on the car.

no wheel:

and the finished product:

Should allow me to be fade free, and i immediately can feel less effort required, and a much firmer pedal. Should stop nicely considering the car is only 1170kg.

Big thanks to Neil @ racebrakeswa

can contact him on 9390 0183 or racebrakes@optusnet.com.au for all your braking needs.

mind if I ask how much that transition was worth?

Niel @ Racebrakes = Dattoman on here?? Is that the same guy?

rears still stock?

yeah, dattoman.

Rears still stock, will see if theres any bias issues. May play around with pad compounds if so.

as for the price, under wraps unless neil chooses to say what its worth..
lets just say, bang for buck, very good :)

They look good Blake
Hope the bedding in is going well

This kits is $1650 plus fitting
Took about 4 hrs to put on and bleed

And Blakes offered to let people test fit their wheel on his car for clearance first... what a guy

Just an update, managed to give these a good hiding before my gearbox cracked (oops), and can say that the braking is crazy.
Light pressure = old normal stopping
foot down hard = ABS and very hard stops, also happy with no tail waggle bias issues.

Expect to hit wanneroo in a month or so, and test the fade resistance.

looking for a huge brake upgrade for my laser atm, toying up teh idea of swapping to mazda 626 5stud hubs with the D2 or K sport 8 piston setup and rotors... but it seems to be a lot of work.

racebrakes might be gettin paid a visit hahah :D

wat about master cyl? did u have to upgrade due to larger caliper/piston surface area? i know this is sometimes the case with using larger brakes

talk to neil, he deals with all sorts of odd cars and brake requirements all the time.
wouldnt buy d2/ksport/g4 brakes, ive seen the quality of the coilovers and wouldnt want something like that slowing me down...

as for the master cylinder, im told the volumes are very similar, and certainly dont have a soft or low pedal.

china should stick to exhausts and coolers from other peoples experiences unless there is absolutely no choice in the matter.

ive got china coilovers and havent had a single problem with them. Josh has had 2 sets of cartridges fail on his d2's so far, my racing logics have been flawless.

yeah ill definatley ahve a chat to him about it blake. Sick of having "turbo" brakes fitted to my car and still strugglign to stop with them.

my car doesnt have bulk horsepower, but its certainly the best mod i've done to the car. Good to know i can throw anything at them, and still be able to stop hard.

p.s. stock brakes look pussy in big rims :D

In saying that, my coils were given a bloody hard time. I believe that for general street use and style they would be fine.

There are plenty of reviews around the place of people that have used ksport/d2/g4. One on sau in particular.

big rims have advantages, as long as theyre light.
clears big brakes
less sidewall

disadvantages:
cost of decent rims and tyres

17's arent big anyway, just the smallest to clear my brakes.

I was referring more to unsprung weight (especially in lower powered NA cars).
They are a big set of brakes though, No excuses now :)
