How to do Key Bangers

whats the technique you need to do to get your car to do a key banger?:lol:

On our old van (carburetted naturally) drive at cruising speed with your foot held steady, switch the key off, then take your foot off the accelerator and quickly switch the key back on.

BANG! And people duck for cover. Beaufort street cafes are hilarious. Especially in this age of terrorism.

i used to do them all th etime in my old corona wagon...some of th eolskool people on here will remember a time when i did one,specially Gav hahaha,was pulled over,the cops thought i had a gun in th ecar..thats how loud they were,anyway 6 or so cop cars rolled up,i was handcuffed,so was Gav hahahaha he had to lay face down in the dirt,i was on the road laughing my hea doff,the cops then aske dwhat a key bang was...so i let a couple off,the second one i did was hell loud and showered the cop car behind me in rocks n shit..anyway a couple cops just laughed n said "well lif this is all this is over,tell the sarg we werent here" they had a laugh n drove off..and i didnt get a yellow for it..they tried...but it didnt happen...i also used to do them in my old Landcruiser,they wer eloud as...but i ended up blowing the muffler clean off one day on beaufort st just next to the abo park...hahaha woke them all up. ohh the days of keybangs and making "P" platers pull over...anyway i could ramble on all day with all my keybang stories...i have 1 loong story to tell that will make th eWA police force look very very stupid...and it even went to court and the magistrate said "well...i better have my car looked at now because if my car backfires i too might be arrested, case Dismissed"!

Done this many many times, so much fun and even if you do it all day long you still dont get tired of it haha

These are the steps:
1.Get a car that runs off a carby
2.Get the car driving and while the car is still in gear and clutch engaged turn the key off
3.I tend to pump the accelerator a few times while the ignition is off
4.Turn the ignition switch back to the on postion (not the start position) after leaving the motor off for about 5 seconds and listen for the BANG

Just a couple of pointers, efi wont do this only carby.
When you turn the ignition off only go back one click (to accessories) otherwise steering lock will be kicked in and if a corner is coming up it will make things fun.
You dont have to pump the accelerator whilst its off, but by doing it you are putting more fuel in the exhaust and more fuel = bigger bang.
If the car has a standard exhaust system dont expect it to last, key bangers blow mufflers apart.
Even though its funny dont scare anyone over 60yrs old, you will kill them...

gas forklifts are the best for them too..

the old nissan gas ones seem to do it loudest. just get it up to top speed, switch it to accessories and coast till you've almost stopped, an click her back on.

had many people duckin for cover in the carpark with that one, also many oldtimers holding their chests, all in good fun!

got some nice foot long flames outta the exhausts a few times too.

the whole theory is that while the car is rolling, you turn off the ignition so there isnt any spark to the motor. BUT as its a carby, you leave it in gear so the motor is still turning, hence fuel is still going through the motor, not burning, and being spat out into the exhaust... turn ignition on again, motor sparks, flames touch fuel.. BANG!!!!!!!!!

I had a guy in an old banger of a mini truck do one to me as i drove past once.. i almost shat myself it was so loud.. damn trucks with side pipes and me with an open window

doesnt make any difference cause you still have fuel in the fuel bowl of the carby

some cars are alot harder than others to do. Some you have to let it coast for a while to get heaps of fuel and for some you do the same technique it maybe too much and it doesnt work aswell. Just take it for a drive and experiment with the time you have the ignition switched off and whether to pump the accelerator or not and you'll figure out the sweet spot.
I used to have an express van as a bunky and that was the best for key bangers, followed by a short wheel base pajero with extractors (nice flames with that one), and a datto 120y did suprisingly well with its tiny carby.

Best reactions come from people eating something on the side of the road or poeple walking their dogs, the dogs just shit and run hahahahaha

i have had people dive on to the ground, shit themselves and run off the road. the best is when you do it to multinova operators when they are setting up.
