i have a hachi shell and im trying to decide what to do with it...

anyway im just curious about putting an sr into it.. cant be that hard can it? ca18det swaps are pretty common these days so the sr cant be much harder...

has anyone done this locally, or even if youve heard of some one doing it, is it difficult?

obviously ill need an sr front cut, but what else...

fmic, clutch...

Also need to fabricate engine mounts n gearbox mount , use factory radiator and have the top tank turned around to suit outlet of sr20 . We used normal tank with swirl pot n made new lines ..

add to that other shit like cooler + custom piping, custom dump, exhaust, fuel pump, fuel lines coz the orig ones are for carby

prob around 3k minimum not incl cost of the sr

s13 sr radiator fits (sits high but the bonnet still closes)

is that including the cost of labor? so far were up to 5-6 grand

2500-3000 for front cut
3000 for stuff as you just said..

nah
thats with doing everything yourself and pretty much the bare MINIMUM to make it run

if your planning on changing the turbo i'd change it first and then do the cooler piping to suit
otherwise u will have to make up another set of piping for the turbo side of the cooler piping when you change your turbo if the turbo outlet doesnt match the standard system. will also have to fabricate a new dump if the new turbo isnt the same layout as the std snail.

depending on how far back you mount the engine will determine how big a hole u have to cut for the shifter. if you mount it really far back the standard dump pipe will not fit so a custom item with a much sharper angle will have to be fabricated

after you do all that and get the engine running sweet you may want to think about upgrading the brakes to jap disks on the front minimum. (same size as the aus spec disks/caliper but they are vented). also its reccommended u change the diff to a t series minimum ( stronger than the standard s series diff and there are also aftermarket lsd's available for them) and u may as well buy a trd, kaaz..etc 2way lsd while your at it (around 1k but worth while investment)

probably some other stuff i've forgotten
if ya have any other questions just post them up

good luck

ps. agree with lyndon, always over budget. shit never goes right when it involves cars.

thanks upgarage.

can you give me an estimate of how much it would cost (assuming im paying some one to do the swap)

i know its just guessing but it would be appreciated

Custom hybrid conversions like this would be hard to pre quote on many workshops in Perth are not so keen to take on this type of work. Ring Tenagah Hyperdrive C-red or even better go see them.

SR in a 86 body would be pretty wild though, even a mild 250 rwhp be nappy filling momments

no idea how much it would cost
best to ring around

wont be cheap though

well i was assuming it would work out cheaper than buying an s13/180 seeing as i got the car cheap.

one is getting done in Bayswater might be the person to speak too
had the motor in and out would be able to give u some ideas and why not just put ca18det in as it fits and can make enough power to fry tyres without trying

ide at least put 10K aside for doing somthing like this, shit always comes p and money always disaperes out of ur pocket fast, realy fast

a few years back i thought i could get away with a fj into datsun1600 with 4K... oh how young and foolish i was, times taht by 3 and thats about wat ive spent, not including car and wat ive spent on that n other things

You have already probably thought of this but what about dropping in a 4AGZE and replacing the supercharger with something like a T28 or GT28RS, would be alot cheaper as you wouldnt need as much custom work done and it would still be pretty quick.

Good luck with your project!

because the standard gear box is weak as piss
and the solution to that is a w58 conversion which cost roughly 1500-2k

no offence, but i HATE ca's. ive had 4 of them, in 2 different cars and they are just one big headache after the other... ive had an sr and it went better and was more reliable, so yeah i dont want another ca18.

labour = free. you should be doing all work yourself!

and long and short of an engine conversion is "how long is a piece of string?" there are so many variables.

for example, my 1J manual conversion from 7M auto cost me a little over $1200, i did all the work myself, and as you can see, nearly all the money for the halfcut and parts i bought was offset by the stuff i sold that i didnt need from the halfcut/old parts.

and thats a simple bolt in conversion that costs some people $6k+

get a list of all the parts you need, search places like toymods and ae86drivingclub, and see what needs doing, everywhere you can buy stuff off-the-shelf, do it.
