Just wondering what the deal with offsets for wheels? I know different offsets make the wheel stick further in or out of the car but i never found out what the actual numbers mean?
Is +40 compared to +10 further in or out??
Also what sort of offset would a r34 with 18*8 or 19*9inch rims need to fit without it sitting to far in or out?
Cheers for the help

yeah thats exactly what i needed, cheers wilko
so if you cant get the perfect offset to suit you car your better off getting a rim with slightly more positive offset and use spacers to counter it?
So since gtrs have wider guards they would have a more negative offset that the normal skylines so the rims fill the guards right? So thats why gtr rims dont fit normal skylines because the rim sticks out to far right?
What sort of offset would a r34 need?
i heard that the stock offset was +38, and normally people go with slightly less offset to make the rim sit more flush with the guard??? So how much less should i go??
cheers again
1. Spacers are bad and not legal
2. You cannot widen or narrow the track of a vehicle from stock form by more than 10mm
Try something around +30, Do it properlly the first time and youll be forever happy

i had a pair of stock r34 gt-t 17inch rims that i forgot about and i just checked the inside of the rim and its got 40 stamped on it. So im guessing that it has an offest of +40, so +30 would probably be the widest i could go

your better off getting the perfect offset, second option is, a lower offset and stretch the tyres, or run a large amount of camber, or, the best one, flare your guards.
getting a lower offset, you can legally do things to fit the tyres, higher offset pushes the wheel into the strut, and you cant legally do anything, unless you swap from stock struts to narrower coilovers, even then, its little...
