how much space does the database take up on ur server and whats your monthly allocation?
i use a mob called lunarpages for my webhosting, it's fast as fuck and very reliable

Lunarpages... oldschool hosting.
They used to have a very bad rep, not sure how it is now.
Morgs: Maybe email them about it and see whats going on. If it continues there was the 90 day money back and new server FTW.

my work hosts 3x fulltime servers in the US.
if you get desperate let me know, probably not as cheap as where you are now, but ultra stable.

Whats with hosting in the US? Thats prob half the problem? Cant it be hosted locally or is it too pricey?
Lonewolf

doesnt really matter where its hosted if the pipeline and servers are good.
we run around 100 sites (including intranets, web applications, mail, spam filtering etc) over there and never had a complaint to speed.
In the states, dedicated data centers are much cheaper bang for buck. Ie over there i can get 24/7 monitored service, virtually unlimited bandwidth, top notch speed, good physical security, and complete control over our servers, at a fraction of the cost of one over here.

Hosting in Australia is stupidly expensive compared to hosting in the US. My website moved to the US over 4 years ago purely because of cost!
Pipes around the world are generally big enough these days and are able to handle the traffic; doesn't really matter where the host is!

ive been using dreamhost for 4 years and not 2 times spring to mind for downtime do to server maintaince. Their pricing and allocation is brilliant!
Whoevers running this shit send them an email and tell them your thoughts, as they are probably not aware and will go out of their way to help you.. dreamhost is run by a bunch of weirdo nerds.. (see --> http://www.dreamhost.com/aboutus.html)
The errors coming up were dns failures, database errors and complete failure on the website due to misconfiguration. So either somebodys messing with background processes or they are not stable.

I'll have a talk to the host - I've not experienced any problems to date on this server- what specifically are the problems that I can talk to them about?
In terms of other resolutions, we are not equipt to cover the cost of a dedicated server....

Pages taking ages to load, or not loading at all.
What would it cost? Im happy to assist with costs if a few other jump on board.

Purely out of curiosity, does Antilag take donations the way other sites do, or does all the cash come from sponsors & mods pockets?

i quite often get stuck uploading a post, just times out.
Wait 10 mins, hit refresh and it seems to go through.
Dont need a dedicated server, just a good host :)
asides from being down a couple of times ive had no speed or loading issues?

asides from being down a couple of times ive had no speed or loading issues?
same here, speed is way better than when move hapened a month or so ago.
it works well 4 me
the other issues may be related to us not moving server correctly?

Can someone answer these questions:
Is this site-wide, or page-specific?
Is the problem still occurring?
Next time it happens:
- open up an MS DOS prompt and run tracert antilag.com
And PM me the output/screenshot
Without this information can't resolve what problems we've been having. The host is happy to help but we need to try and identify the problem. I can't do this because I am not having problems with the server from my connection.
Cheers

Generally it happens lunchtime to about 3pm WST. starts with a db error, then the site doesnt exist. It pings, its like the http service isn't running on the server.
Least thats what I get.

FYI talked to their tech support and they've escalated to level 2, and will get back to us.
Whatever level 2 is. Not sure.

pages have been deadly slow loading all day today (like 2-3mins to fully load a page on 512k broadband). Have noticed some new advertising banners - have these just been integrated?? Is that likely to be the culprit for today
Morgs
30-04-2007, 06:25 AM
As per announcement, banners are a work in progress
Next time it happens:
- open up an MS DOS prompt and run tracert antilag.com
If I don't have this feedback I can't trace it / follow it up with the server tech gurus. I was on the site almost all day yesterday without any issues.
Thanks
