when u say xbox 360 format, to play hd dvds on the xbox u have to buy the external drive...

blue ray should win for the same reason VHS won, blue ray said yes to porn being on it, HD said no
I also belive that panasonic and samsung were responsible for bluray, so now sony has joined onto it as well i reckon it should be the one to go for

wtf so there are gonna be Blueray HD Movies for sale and then the other HD movies for sale? thats gonna get confusing when lookin for movies haha
yeh thats crap IMO
they should make all movies compatible with blueray, HD, and your standard analog VGA...so buy one works on all :)
anyone know if blueray still uses the component cables? blue green red?

It still uses the same output cables that your DVD player uses. Its just the HD DVD/Blueray players are reading a diffrent kind of disk, and sending more data to the TV, thus a clearer picture and better sound quality.

to get the full hd picture (1080p) from bluray or hddvd you have to use hdmi..
its still early days for the format war, but if bluray says yes to porn then they are a clear winner imo!!

VHS won because it was cheaper, betamax was a better medium.
Bluray has a larger capacity than HD DVD and therefore is the better of the two, however it is more expensive to produce, it all comes down to money really, thats why VHS won out in the past.
However if you look @ the list of distributors backing the 2 different formats it is definately possible that neither will win out and we'll have both until another new format arrives, only time will telll i spose :P

Yeah it does. HDMI carries a digital signal though... all depends really, as this link here says:

I'm voting for blueray too, when I get that PS3 with latest Grand Turismo on it, I don't feel like buying a seperate HD-DVD player to watch movies in the future. Blueray FTW!

I wouldnt worry about which format to go for because before long you'll start seeing players that can play back both formats.
