Just wondering if its true that they eat the flywheel. I have never heard of this before but was told.

I have one in the red e30 at the moment so just wondering if its worth still having it in there.

Depends.

If they are brass button and solid centre, they do eat the flywheel away. My RX7 had a brass 4 puck solid centre, with 2500lb pressure plate. When I took the clutch out, the flywheel had to be machined to within an inch of its life, cos the clutch tore it up.

my previous button clutch ate the flywheel. there are definite groov marks all through it.

If you try slipping the clutch then yes it will be abrasive
If you drive it "on/off" like my racecar one theres no wear on the flywheel at all

The flywheel itself makes a difference too
Cast wears faster than CroMo

dont get a button clutch.

ive got a 5 puck exedy extra heavy duty with a TRD pressure plate with uprated clamping force (ive been told upwards of 2 ton, but i dunno whether to beleive it) its a fucking pig to drive.

get the softest clutch you can for your power level, it'll save all of your driveline components from wear.
