I need to get one too, but I presume you can get it from any motorbike accesories store?

Yeah i just used my dirtbike helmet when i went. BUt any bike store sells helmets, ranging from $50 up to whatever. Best to buy a new one as it will mould to your head. Also best to wear it for a while before the event as a new helmet will be really tight until its worn in.

Yes, any motorcycle shop.

MissMR2 (and anyone else in the Vic Park area): There are plenty of bike shops near you on the Causeway, or you can go to the Suzuki Dealership on Albany Highway, Tires for Bikes next to the Victoria Park Hotel (formerly Cheers) sells them as well I think (althought I think they deal in MX helmets more), along with a shop across the road. There is also Helmet House on the corner of Albany Highway and Hampshire St (I think), up further, and Total Motorcycle Accessories accross the road from Maccas Vic Park. Plenty to choose from.

Just make sure that you get one that fits your head. The helmet shouldn't move very much at all, or it isn't suiting it's purpose. Any good sales-person will be able to give you advice there though.

If you aren't keen on a new one (although I would highly recommend it over a second hand), I read Micheif1 is selling one. (Didn't look at the thread, so have no idea what size it is or anything, just noticed it in his sig). (http://antilag.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13591) If you are only looking at doing some "fun" racing, I don't see a second hand one doing any harm. If you were getting serious, get one from new to mould to your head.

I'd get an open faced one as sitting in your car with long clothes on and a full face helmet gets hot as hell, plus they are a bit of a bugger to get on n off (unless you've already shaved your eyebrows off and taped your nose down, ok so the one i borrowed was a bit small).
Also look at what type of helmet you get and how much room there is above your head in the car (as this is a problem in one of my cars). Different designs seem to have different thickness's in the helmet above your head.

I've seen some at Mack1 Kawasaki, open faced, $70, brand new and some kinda approval stickers on the back. Something like that might do the job, came in white, black, matt black and silver. Optional peak cap, plastic visor accesories for them too. They were probably scooter helmets or something?
Its good to borrow someone elses, then u know what they feel like and whether u liked it or not.
Any motorcycle nerd (Kilma) will have a full-on jobbie for skidding on his lid along the freeway at 150+kmph but these seem to have that bulky top part to them, which didn't suit me and my small car :P

Yeah. Anything should be acceptable as long as it has the Australian Standards sticker. I am pretty sure this is pretty much the only requirement as far as helmets go for all racing done under CAMS/ANDRA. Can anyone confirm??

Like everyone has said any motorcycle store will have them as well as places like revolution racegear and go gear. Personally I would recommend getting as expensive a helmet as your budget allows. And they still have to be a snug fit once you have worn it in.

No CAMS licence for MC day?? I thought you needed one, but they provide the day licences??

I am getting my Cams licence organised now anyway but as far as I know you dont need it for MC day.

You rock up, they check for a valid drivers licence and record your DL number, thats the only form you fill in, pay your $70 and drive.

Even the long-sleeves has been kinda negotiable in the past.

Cash Converters

$45

yeah boiiii

I think u were very lucky there dude, i did the Cashies tour when i was looking for one, all they had was shit

The one store that had a reasonable helmet that actually fitted wanted not much less $ than i could get a brand new one for....

In the end i got a new KBC from Total M/C in Vic Park for $180

Like I said before, if you are planning on competing regularly, I would highly recommend that you invest in a new one suited to you.

At the end of the day, you are possibly (if you did unfortunately crash or roll or something) putting your life in it. Only other problem with a second hand helmet is you don't know it's history.

yay, sweaty smelly helmets ftl! in other news, i just sold my helmet.

Muppet_Guy
15-03-2007, 08:44 PM
My friend had his bike stolen with the helmet. Cops recovered the bike two days later, all thrashed. The helmet was there too, some boong literally took a dump in it!!! My friend had it washed out and stuff, but obviously didn't want to wear it for 'psychological' reasons. So he sold it! :)

Yes, always ask about the helmet's history lol!

Saturday mornings most are open. As with a lot of yards though, they may shut at midday.

MC Day was a whole heap of fun (got to steel my hubbys car) - went flying off the skid pan a few times.......but learnt a whole heap of new skills and will deff be back for the next one. I highly recommend Mc Days to anyone who hasn't been before.
