hey people

just wondering if anyone has had the same problem and knows what it could be?

firstly the car is a 91 s13 180sx with sr20det. engine has just been rebuilt and put back in re-wired, and start fine.

my problem is however, i have no brake lights? the indicators work, the park lights work when the head lights are on, and the reverse lights work.

ive checked all the fuses inside the car, and tomorrow will check all the ones under the bonnet..?

any other suggestions?

thanks
john

the fuse for the brake lights is the 4th down frm the top on the closest row (to the door) and it should be 15amp. its the 3rd actual fuse as the top two sockets are for the one defog fuse.

not tryn to be a smart arse but have you checked the globes?... hatches and wagons always shit brake globes cause the tailgates are so heavy when they shut.

yeah mate, ive checked the globes,

after a little more investigating before, with the trusty ole test light, ive discovered that the 3rd or 4th fuse in the first row from the bottom, keeps blowing everytime i press the brake pedal.... think its a 10 amp one from memory..

this is leading me to think that there might be a bad earth someone but i cant seem to find one n e where atm,,

brake light switch, its atached to the pedal under the dash, one input should have constant power, the other will only have power when being pressed

so grab urself a test light and pull teh switch out but leave it pluged in, and test it as said above, anymoney says its fuked

if it blows everytime that is a short to ground
could be a problem with brake light switch as bodybodyrock mentioned

if not it will be somewhere in the wiring (wire rubbing on chassis/body etc) from the switch back to the lights since it only occurs when you depress the pedal

good luck

I HAVE BRAKE LIGHTS !!!

the problem:

brake light switch was cooked so got new one from nissan for 22 odd bucks, and there was a bad earth near the fuse box that kept cooking the fuse that provides power..

all sorted now.

cheers ppl for ya help
