Hello all.

Some of you may have known me from back in the day before i left perth - i now live in Dubai.

Dubai is often seen in many spotlights around the world - Worlds richest this, worlds biggest that - and yes it is quite an amazing city - but amongst all this attempts to be the worlds most amazing city there is an inherent beauty i would like to share with you all.

This city is quite amazing - the hotels, the cars, the landscape and the shopping. Whilst perth will always be home to me, Dubai is the place i will spend most of my life, once you come here and experience what its like to work in the fastest growing and most exciting city in the world, everything else seems a little bland. The city is literally coming up all around you, with something like 20% of the WORLDS cranes in one city...

i would like to share some images with your from NYE 2006 that a friend took - you will recognise some of the buildings in the images, i have these images in 10-20MB but i have resized them - im sure you will agree they are quite beautiful.

like ive said to all antilag members - if you are ever in this part of the world, give me a shout ill be glad to take you around (time permitting) and show you what the tour buses wont (ask Josh ;)

hahaha nah no ">" perth - its different man

most ppl speak english here TJ - u get around alright, although ALL legal forms are in arabic, including speeding fines etc - i had to pay one today for parking in a retard zone.

The biggest thing here is racism and apartheid - but fortunately, with a white passport (Aussie etc) you are placed at teh top of the pile, get preferential treatment and allowed to do more things then say an indian passport. its disgusting at first but you get used to it.

Traffic is a b1tch.

Culture is fine - u learn to respect the muslim ways esp during ramadan etc...rent/housing is the biggest problem and all the VISA issues....u gotta bear in mind its a third world country still...so dont be expecting how things are in australia.....

just very different but i like it...and by the time im 30 ill have 7 years gulf experience and be on a VERY high tax free salary.....

im a Marketing Executive at the moment dude, but very soon im going into a Business Development Manager role..

currently, im in charge of websites, emarketing, events and exhibitions - PR role etc. i basically set up huge events across the world and travel everywhere, hire good looking girls and run exhibitions...when im here (home) i manage websites and emarketing and train people.

i have one person reporting to me (assistant) but its stilll a very junior role as im 2 years into it...and 25 is considered quite young here in Dubai...

oh and YOU should be buying me a ticket! the $AUD is worth so much over here man...

like any city u got the nice areas and the old areas

1) that area is the beach strip - its where i use to live - its called "Jumeirah Beach Road" - its like a HUGE cafe strip that goes for ages...josh will confirm its pretty cool - major hotels are there as well as the Marina and all the palaces

2) Dubai is now getting "Suburbs" places such as The Greens, The Meadows, The Springs, Gardens etc - imagine big suburbs and communties but houses arent as big as perth and they cost WAY more...

its kinda hard to describe - i dont go near the poorer areas like Deira or Bur Dubai cos traffic is too bad....i stay in my rich whitey areas to be honest...the malls and that are big tho....it doesnt have the charm of perth tho...

ok there are official rules and there are what you can get away with

all bars/hotels sell booze. some restaurants so u can drink there. however there is ZERO tolerence for alcohol when u are driving.

Technically, u can drink in ur home..but u need a liquour license which costs like 200Dhs per year ($80AUD) i just cant be arsed getting one cos i dont drink that much besides seamen.

finance positions no, graduate yes. u need 2 - 3 years in a suitable role then come over here.
the big 5 are here so ull be right.

New areas of development are nice, make your money and get the hell out of there i say.

Nice place, especially the area with the estates in the form of palm trees and the golden filled sea water moated hotel.

IS BOMBED!

Traffic Police - they are fine, they aint assholes but they are getting more strict now. multinovas are in fixed positions BUT speeding leeways (used to be +- 50%) have now been hell cut back due to many deaths

no income tax, no sales tax, no luxury car tax, no fuel tax

Everything here is cheaper than perth except Housing and alcohol.

Housing is different to perth, most ppl cant afford to rent a place so they rent a room in a villa or something...to rent a single room in a villa with may have a seperate bathroom ur looking at around $500AUD per week i guess..and it wont be big..its like living in London or something.

im looking to buy a one bedroom apt soon cos if i do i own my own visa and can do what i want.

yes u can hire them. SLRs, F430s, Gallardos etc. more importantly i can get you a test drive in one..if there is one thing i learned here quickly is who has supercars haha :)

and yeah ricey if you wanna meet up i can take you out for a bit..just gimme fair warning cos im extremely busy and may be travelling...

Nathan - Dubai is no place for speculation right now as the bubble is about to burst...

I went to the Palm Jebel Ali last week its just a beach right now..Palm Jumeirah is closer to being done, right next to The World as well..but u dont get too see too much of that stuff cos its under wraps.

Atlantis (Worlds first underwater hotel) is on its way as well. So is Dubai land which will have dinosaurs (and they look and sound AWESOME) - cos i do exhibitions i get to see a lot of these things and make the contacts..

umm man its kinda all up in the air..and like anything, it depends on where you live.

a one bedroom can range from anywhere between 400,000Dhs to 1.5million Dhs +

= $160,000AUD to $$650,000 thats for a simple one bedroom apartment etc...
