Hey all, thought I might make one of these posts now seeing as I have been here for a while.
91 Toyota Soarer GTTL
Mods: Apexi SAFCII, GReddy Profec B Spec 2 Boost Controller, Mines ECU, Apexi Power Intake, MV Shift Kit, factory LSD.
Power: 252hp at 15psi
1/4 Mile: 13.35/105mph
Won the 2005/2006 Fast Friday Sport Compact championship at Perth Motorplex. Has won a total of six Fast Fridays and two runner ups out of a total of ten events competed in. Currently sitting on top of 2006/2007 championship.
Future plan is to steel wheel the turbos and introduce a small shot of nitrous for the drags along with some drag radials. Will hopefully then run 12s and allow me to compete in Super Street.

Haha whoops left the basic stuff out. Yeah when I go the steel wheels she will cop a dump pipe and zorst too. Considering dumps are a turbo out job it's not really something I want to do twice!

Thought I might update this.
Won the Drag Warz in May in the Quick Street category and set a new PB of 13.17, finally got the 60 foot into the 1.9s on the same Federal tyres I have been running for two years now.
Also took out the second Fast Friday championship in a row. Auto with a bit of oomph behind it, gotta love it. Consistent and quick enough to be the chaser most of the time in DYO.
Modification plans are currently on hold as I sort out moving house but hopefully I will be getting a set of dump pipes and a mid pipe on there shortly at the very least. We'll see how long these stock turbos hang around for! A guy over east is running 12.1s on stockies now at 16-17psi and races fairly regularly.

Are you getting Lew's dumps Luke?
If you're gonna change your dumps, might just as well chuck in some steel wheeled turbos :) ----> http://www.antilag.com/forums/showthread.php?p=216574#post216574
It is a huge pain in the ass and you don't want to be doing it twice, trust me, I know it painfully well haha.

13.1, bloody good times for the amount of mods. Top job. Mine has similar mods with a cooler and minus the shift kit, yet to take it to the plex and see what it runs.

OK another update...exhaust is now done from front pipe back. Can't really see it in the photo but that was the plan, keep some Soarer subtlety there, even though it is probably a bit louder than I wanted.
Can also see the MT tyres in the pics which just go on for the drags.
Have the dump pipes at home and an intercooler kit ready to be installed in the off season.

Running at a National Open this weekend and hoping it will crack a 12. It ran a best of 13.01 a couple of weeks ago in 32 degree ambient temp and 2500ft of air so am fairly confident it will do it this weekend especially with the great track prep.
awesome. cant wait to see results of said mods. its pretty clear your good at moving stock jzz30's down the quarter rather quickly. :)

Probably a little bit more than 250 now with the exhaust, I am gussing in the region of 265-270, but don't really know to be honest.
Anyway had a great time in Super Street. There are some really great guys who run in the category.
Qualifying and my first pass was a 13.08/106, not quite what I was hoping for (the 12!) and with a .165 reaction time still needed a little work.
Second qualifying pass was finally the one I was looking for with a 12.91/104! I gave it more revs and it was actually starting to creep on the line 60ft was excellent with a 1.81. Also reaction time was a great .009.
Final qualifying run and was just hoping for something consistent. A 13.06 on this one which wasn't that flash, .056 reaction time was ok though.
First round next and I decided for a 12.99 dial in given the last pass. Up against Dom Dercole in his 'wogboy' XA Falcon. I left first .049 reaction to his .054, then ran a 13.00 on a 12.99 for the win, defeating an 11.11 on an 11.07. It was a very close race. I was really pumped after getting through the first round at my first Super Street event, it's a massive thrill and running the 12 and getting past the first round was the goal I had set myself for the event so everything from then on would be a bonus...
...which was fortunate as I went out in round two! Took the holeshot .01 to .10 but the car crept on the line again, signifying another good 60 foot time and it ran a 12.92, way under the 12.97 dial in. I got on the brakes but nowhere near enough, I doubt it affected the ET by anymore than a couple of thousandths.
Anyway I'll be back in Super Street on April 5, here's hoping we can go a few rounds better!

Nice work, its very rare to see some street Jap cars doing some real drag racing.

also shows you dont need bulk mods to run fast and consistent times.
Well done.

Thanks guys. It really is great fun and I'd recommend it to people who think they have a consistent enough car to take part. And as said before, if you are going to go to the drags with three mates, it works out cheaper to enter your car and have a skid than to pay for all the tickets! Think about it!

Luke, before you add that shot of NOS, put 2 transmission coolers on.
You want to plumb it in like this:
trans -> cooler -> radiator -> cooler -> trans
When mine did 12.91 the trans temps were huge. Getting on the converter at the start creates massive amounts of heat.
Heat is the only thing that kills those boxes. Keep in mind mine did 360+rwhp on a standard box, so the actual clutch packs are fine.

Brock, is it really necessary to run it through the radiator? What are the benefits? I was just going to run a single large trans cooler on it's own.
Brockas
07-04-2008, 12:48 AM
Yes run it through the radiator.
The radiator already has a trans cooler in it. Removing that and running a large single cooler is going to do next to fucall for your temps.
2 smaller coolers are the way to go in my experience...

so if you included the standard tranny cooler built into the radiator he'd actually have 3 gbox coolers?
bound to do the job:)

OK well had my second event in Super Street on the weekend. The goal I set myself was to go further than the second round this time.
Qualifying was interesting. It was very cool conditions for a change. The ambient temp was just 18 degrees and the hair was hovering around sea level most of the day.
First run was a 12.75 which I was amazed with! It had my best 60 foot ever of 1.75 and a speed of 105mph. Certainly the car loved the cold air and cold track which gives better traction.
My next two qualifiers weren't anything to write home about, 12.91 and a crappy 13.11 which came after the car crept on the line. Best reaction time was a .065 and the others were .1s so they needed some work also.
First round and I pulled into the staging lanes next to Michael Waters, who was the points leader. I just went in with the plan to give it a good race. I got the holeshot .044 to .169 and even though my time was a sluggish 13.07 on a 12.90 dial in (probably not enough revs off the line as the 60 foot was down) it took the win when Michael broke out by four thousandths of a second! Gotta say I felt ten feet tall after that race.
The next race I had another Michael in Michael King, another purpose built drag car. I left well with a .032 reaction, I got lucky as Michael red lit with a -.001! I didn't realise it at the time and kept the boot in it for a 12.92 on a 12.90.
Next round and it wasn't getting easier as I now had the guy who was second in the points, and would go on to become champion Vince Belladonna. I took the holeshot .030 to .102 but I mustn't have stalled it up enough again as I ran a cripplingly slow 13.19 on a 12.90 dial in which was a lose against an 11.30 on an 11.20. I couldn't believe it ran so slow as I felt I had given it enough and was a little annoyed as I had him on the ropes so to speak with the reaction time advantage. It was also the race that gave Vince the championship over Michael Waters so I felt bad for Michael in particular.
I went out for a grudge run later in the night and ran a bloody 12.78 at my best ever speed of 171kph in the same lane so go figure!
Anyway, it bodes well for next season. My goals are to make a run at Rookie of the Year, which is quite tricky in Super Street because of the way the points work, to finish in the top ten in the points and to win an event. Might as well set them high!
