dad just got a R31 gts-x, grade 4 , first owner in australia. apparently had all the belts and stuff replaced, but on cold starts its squeeking like a bitch for a few hundred meters, sounds like the fan belt or something is slipping, but it shouldnt be if its bin replaced. just wondering if anyone knows what else it could be?

thanx, James

New belts still slip if they are not tensioned properly.

new or old, it shouldnt make a difference, if its squeaking, its slipping.

the only difference between new and old, is whether you have to adjust or replace.

so adjust it.

could be waterpump, on cold starts some types of water pumps can cause a squeeking noise, it usualy means the pump needs replacing

will have a look at the belts tomorrow, theres a little bit of slack in one, will try and tighten up the altenator bracket thingy. Also, theres a fair bit of slack in the accel cable, but at the bracket were the cable is turned to bare wire, the nut is already as far as it can go, is there another adjustment anywere? on the firewall maybe, or the pedal itself.
