380,000 Addicted Germans
Germans addicted to texting

BERLIN (Reuters) - Growing numbers of Germans are becoming addicted to text-messaging, a German doctor has warned, estimating there are some 380,000 sufferers nationwide.

Psychotherapist Andreas Herter based his prediction on the growing proportion of manic mobile phone users among patients arriving at his clinic for addiction therapy in Hanover.

"Text message addiction is a real and serious illness because it causes mental and financial damage," said Herter, author of a book on sex therapy.

"The problem leads to depression and personality disorders, not to mention spiralling phone bills," he said on Friday.

Amongst the most extreme cases were a teenage boy who spent 8,900 euros (6,000 pounds) compulsively texting people he didn't even know and a married couple who could only communicate by text message, even when they were sitting side by side.

Fucking crazy

how bad are you?

I prefer to sms people most of the time cause I simply cbf calling them, or I know they may not be able to answer a call at the time.

i hate sms'ing because its a pain in the ass to type all the buttons and i am impatient and laxy. then at the same time, i cant be rude and not reply. but after 1 or 2, im over it and i call.

calling is better, only like one button press. i have speakerphone on my mobile, so thats even more lazy for me :D

i think sms'in is good to a degree, i have a mate that will have a 50msg talk with u, and he isnt the sharpest tool in the shed so u need another 50 to explain things to him, he doesnt realise that a call will take a tenth of the time and save him some money.
