think its in the high 12s, top spot is running high 10s. Not much action happening in true street, everyone seems to run slicks instead. A high 11 should put me roundabouts midfield, thats if i ever manage to rego it.

Cheers fellas, had alot of drama's at motorvation on saturday, got it all sorted by sunday morning (HUGE thanx to Big Cam for the dissy). Managed to drop a decent skid on the last lap, spewin it was so late. Gotta fix my brakes for next year, didnt hold the car on stand stills very well, also got bugger all vacuum with the solid cam. Engine had barely been run-in, prob 100kms if that, swapped my 7600 limiter for a 7000 and it copped that all weekend on the brake :P

Props to TJ for the shot:

Well, long time since ive updated this. Motor shat a big-end bearing a week before motorvation, its all stripped down yet again. Figured i could never have a motor apart and not do something new, haha. I just recieved a few goodies for the new engine build, all brand new from a workmate that had them sitting round for ages waiting to go on his drag torrie.

Crow Cams custom grind Solid Roller, 0.714" valve lift, aggressive !!
(New Solid Roller is on the RH, compared to my old 288 solid on the LH)
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/VNAero/355ci%20Engine/SolidRollerCamshaft.jpg

Yella Terra Alloy Heads, CNC ported by Kostecki Engine Centre, 1.65" exh, 2.08" inlet - will be getting the exterior polished
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/VNAero/355ci%20Engine/AlloyHeads.jpg

Can also see the new polished nitrous bottle in the background, had COME make me a custom billet nitrous plate to suit the twin throtts. Hopefully get all the engine back together before powercruise, not sure if the nitrous setup will be finished before then. Also got a Motec M800 sitting here, but will be waiting till after powercruise so i can go through and rewire everything to clean it up. Motor will still be same combo as previously, bar the new additions you see here - long as bottom end comes back okay from machine shop, doesnt look too bad.

Should be fun :)

NVIOUS
17-03-2008, 08:19 PM
Yeh i think duration was round 266 mark at .050"
The 288 is normally a decent size solid, the roller dwarfs it haha

what caused the spun big end? that motor wasnt that old was it?

NVIOUS
18-03-2008, 08:14 PM
my own retardedness...big end cap worked loose, no major damage only started knocking for a second or two before it was shut down. Crank has a slight groove im hoping can be polished out, rods are fine, bearings will be replaced.

Had the same combo (1st page) running for the first time at motorvation 21 with the antilag group, will still be same bar the new stuff posted recently (cam, heads, nos). So yeh i've had the motor for over a year now, though admittedly was hardly driven. After MV21 i took it out to fix a rear main leak, and check bearings etc - left it last minute and rushed it back together for MV22, bad move. But ahwell, keeps me busy anyway.

Well motor is coming along slowly, hopefully it'll be done in time for powercruise. Sold my T700 & dominator stall, buying a friends powerglide & 5800 TCE converter, should do good trans-brake skids for powercruise ;P
Got some build pics of the short motor so far:

Some other goodies waiting:

Custom CNC'd Belt-drive setup - goodbye old timing chain setup, havent seen many holdens running this setup, so should look good
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/VNAero/355ci%20Engine/ARCBeltDrive2.jpg

Theres a Motec M48 in there too, probably wont be installed until after powercruise, then i'll re-wire the entire car.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/VNAero/355ci%20Engine/Boot-1.jpg

Probably repaint my block this week, then start fitting the belt drive setup, though might get it polished beforehand - still waiting on the alloy heads to get back from the metal polisher

well pulled out of powercruise, and most likely missing motorvation aswell unfortunately. Been busy last week or so chopping down my chassis rails in the engine bay, welded them up, grind flat. Then starting mocking up an engine plate out of wood. Thought id throw up a few pics so far

Flattened chassis rails (previously had a large lip). Please note this is probably the first thing ive welded since i was a 1st year apprentice, so took alot of grinding haha:
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/VNAero/355ci%20Engine/ChassisRails1.jpg

Dummy engine plate:
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/VNAero/355ci%20Engine/EnginePlate1.jpg

I have a plate of 6mm ally, will be using the above wooden template i made and get it laser cut so the edges don't look as dodgy as mine, and hopefully get the gaps alot tighter fit. Need to run an engine plate as i'll be running a big external drive peterson oil pump with built in vac pump, would normally foul on the factory engine mounts as its too long. Figured would be a good chance to move the engine back slightly too, help in weight transfer etc.

well long time since updates, been busy with new job and new jeep daily car. Things seem to keep getting more out of hand every time i get back to perth. Now decided setting up the engine plate to go to a dry sump setup. Just recieved my new custom alloy dry sump from COME today, once the engine plate brackets are all welded in place will get the sump polished.

just bought a new house so work progresses slowly, in a big move i've sold off my come EFI intake, and possibly the spare motec ecu, decided to go all out and order a custom sheetmetal intake n twin carbs, running a big shot of nitrous. In the middle of rewiring the whole car, figure if its gonna be a strip/show car might aswell piss off the EFI and make it easier, wanna see single digits eventually with round a 300shot. Been busy wasting money on other things recently:

Got a new B&M Composite X Pro Stick shifter to suit the new DTM built Powerglide backed with a 5800rpm TCE stall, transbrake and CSR Composite Trans Shield:
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/VNAero/My%20VN%20Aero/DSC00449.jpg

And ditching the calais seats in favour of my newest present, set of Sparco Evo carbon fibre shell racing seats:
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/VNAero/My%20VN%20Aero/DSC00452.jpg
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/VNAero/My%20VN%20Aero/DSC00454.jpg

Progress may slow down this year, just bought a new house, try and get as much fab work as i can do myself out of the way. Heres a pic of a dummy engine with the new sump n engine plate, plate will still have to be modified to mount dry sump pump and alternator later. Power Steering pump & A/C has been ditched, managed to fit a VL manual steering rack with abit of modifying to the steering shaft. Dash will be next to go, rip out heater box etc, either a complete custom dash or a later model dash will be retrofitted pissing off all non essentials

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/VNAero/My%20VN%20Aero/DSC00451.jpg

Mate is not sure if he wants the motec yet, so far he's doubtful, so currently taking EOI on my M48 ECU, he's got first dibs on it, but if he doesnt want it in the next few weeks its gonna be up for grabs, not sure what options it has unlocked, far as im told previous owner had it running on a mild blown 355ci setup, comes with harness but wiring is all over the place, prob worth just choppping the main connector and rewiring to suit the whatever vehicle:
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/VNAero/My%20VN%20Aero/DSC00444.jpg

Gonna be a long time before shes ripping up the tarmac again, with the new house on the way, once the shed is all setup hopefully i'll be albe to start wasting $ on the green machine again.

Hopefully I'll be welding in brackets for the engine plate this weekend, and filling a few holes in engine bay, above picture has the plate just resting on the chassis rails, need to trim 10mm or so off the edges to drop it down abit more and then hopefully i'll be able to slide it back enough so the powerglide mounts upto the factory trans-mount holes, pretty close as it is.

yella terra -9's CNC'd by Kostecki's, mate i bought em off cant find the flow sheet unfortunately, but should flow well enough, nothing extreme though. He never got around to using them so they're still brand new

Alcohol Race Components, overeast somewhere. Had a hard time trying to track him down, and its definately not cheap, close to 2.5K for the whole setup and you still need a CSI/CSR waterpump on top of that.

NVIOUS

Well the wait for the intake still continues, could possibly be the greatest intake manifold ever made considering how long ive had to wait :P
Bought a few goodies in the mean time, but havent really had a chance to get much work done on the car lately. Been busy wasting $$ on the house & my other 2 cars, but should hopefully get back into the vn after feb, and some real progress can start.

Just arrived recently:

CSR electric water pump for the ARC timing cover
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/VNAero/CSRElectricWaterPump.jpg

Moroso 3-Stage Dry Sump Oil Pump (Drag Race model)
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/VNAero/355ci%20Engine/MorosoDrySumpPump3-Stage2.jpg

The new short engine has been together for awhile now, but seriously considering changing it all again. Most likely end up with some dedicated n2o ported pistons & ally rods so it can handle 300+ of gas

Runners have been tapped for nitrous nozzles (be working my way upto a 300 shot, maybe more if the heads stay seated), top plate is currently set-up for 2x 4150 carbs, but will be changed to suit 2x dominators, hopefully the new pro system SV1's

Still going to be a long way of completion yet, as i'm selling off my complete 355ci bottom end. Starting to save my pennies for a CRS 383ci steel crank, ally rods, nitrous pistons etc - the old cast crank isnt going to like nitrous abuse so going for all top-shelf bottom end. Though a mate is trying to sell pretty much that exact bottom end so trying to work out a deal/swap. Will also be taking his solid roller which makes my big roller look tame, lobe sep is better suited to the gas aswell :)

HOPING to have the engine ready sometime this year, maybe get it run in & tuned on an engine dyno. But the rest of the car ain't going to be ready for action until atleast next year if im lucky, will be getting smoothed bay, full cage, custom dash & interior, sheetmetal 9" rear, slicks & front runners, etc all set-up for the 1/4

goin to be running a rather large shot of gas so would be wise to regulary pull down engine & inspect anyway. Its not like i'll be racing it every week anyway, but with the engine plate setup & no EFI wiring to worry bout it'll be no drama to remove - its been apart that many times I'm used to it. And always have the option of going back to a steel rod later on if it bothers me.

Havent mounted it as yet, mate is selling me his old mount from his torrie. Believe BDG in welshpool sell the plate to bolt over the stock oil pump location then your pump mounts to that, its designed for BDG's own dry sump pumps but my mate got one of the moroso mounts to bolt upto it.

Not sure on rear end yet, prob wont be sorted until next year. Thinking of black magic race cars though, seem to handle all of separovich's cars so must be decent

Here's a pic the fabricator sent me awhile back, if you really want a better pic i can take the plate off and get another, needs to get cut to suit dominators anyway

whats the engine plate for? Just dont get why its so close to the chassis.

engine plate mounts the engine to the chassis, I'm running a dry sump setup so the plate allows more room for the oil pump as the stock engine mounts are in the way, also more room for custom headers & allows engine to be shifted further back & lower for better weight distribution etc.

The mounting tabs have not yet been finished, so in the photo the plate is simply resting on the chassis rails, will obviously be raised up a tiny bit once tabs have been welded to the rails. Plate may be trimmed down more aswell once pump, alternator, vac pump etc are mounted. Was going to push the engine right back against the firewall, but now thinking about setting up the mounts so there is room for a BBC if the need arises in the future.

Well the old 355ci is long sold & gone. Dropped my timing cover, dry sump gear, etc to my mate & he's been busy setting everything up on his 383ci while I've been away working. The custom cam belt cover needs a bit of work, timing pointer doesnt line up to the SBC balancer so needs a new bracket cut & going to mount a crank trigger off this too. Setting up the oil pump drive belt will be next & then will need to get it sitting in the bay finally to see where vac pump & alternator will sit.

Will start saving for new heads after xmas, will hopefully be getting the new Trick & Manswetto 6-bolt heads, strip my block back down & get it redrilled to suit the extra bolts, then still need carbs, fuel system, ignition, heaps to go still unfortunately. But dropped my mates heads & carbs onto the engine to see what it will look like when finished :

New bottom end consists of grout filled block, 4 bolt mains, CRS forged steel 3.75" crank, GRP 6" ally rods, custom dome top Ross forged pistons, 1/2" ARP head studs. Comp hopefully be between 13.0-13.5:1. Custom solid roller, havent got the cam card yet, but its round .780" valve lift so she's pretty big.

It's gone 9.69@136 in my mates LX 4dr, full interior, stock suspension, street rego'd, glide & 9" on meth, top end had big $$$ ported -9's & modified big paw intake w/ single meth dominator carb. Well got the car back from SRM, had the rear chassis rails notched for more tyre clearance. My new Weld Alumastar's rocked up yesterday too, so mounted some slicks to see if 12's would actually fit - was nervous after laying so much $$. Glad to see they fit snuggley though. Will be getting the upper wheel arch inner guards chopped out & prob move the rear axle back an inch or two for extra room to allow some tyre growth. Want this thing sitting low as possible without putting a rear clip in - that way it stays Mod Street legal. Parcel shelf will be torn out, and prob redo most of the boot floor once a diff is sorted out. Now I have wheels sitting in the tubs I can do a final measure up for the rear diff, will be getting a custom chro-moly fabbed housing, got a Strange pro full floater kit on its way too :)

Usually floating hubs are a requirement at 7.5 seconds. But in terms of safety and holding the rear end together instead of a tyre potentially flying off if you bust an axle (plus the ability to use the rear brakes still) they are a pretty good investment.

Hard to say, but if Corey above is right, then he will need around 750rwhp to make it happen (based on my assumption of the car weight @ 2750lb).

NVIOUS
06-11-2014, 08:48 PM
hoping to go 8's with the gas (low 8 would be my ultimate goal), might get a high 9 aspirated if it's setup right. Engine will hopefully make 740-800fwhp, then we'll see how much gas it takes to pop heads :) But will stay aspirated initially for awhile until the car gets dialled in right, then I'll start small & ramp up the gas from there.
Floaters aren't necessary but definitely make the car safer & worth the extra weight. Thought hard about cutting corners & going non-floater & plain 6 point cage etc, but decided to future-proof it now while I have the ideal chance, hence bulletproof floater rear & now going funny car style cage. This will make it 7sec legal if ever get bored with the gassed holden donk

NVIOUS
07-11-2014, 12:29 AM
that just makes it more exciting :P By no means do I plan on this thing staying together for a long time, will be a high maintenance engine for sure, but I want to push the holden's limits, no one has really done that with a holden. There's something about big hp aspirated/nitrous engines living on edge that does it for me, turbo engines just sound too tame - I may be swayed by a procharger though at some point

huggy_b

Do you know roughly what the car will weigh ready to race? If my guesstimate of 2750lb is close, you'll need 900+ at the rears to go low 8's.
