looks very clean man, who did all the acid bathing & machining and assembly work? Whats 'Darton sleeved block'.... the brand of sleeves? or the guys that did em? Can ya tell us a bit about these sleeves?
Should be a gut busting experiance in the 180...

Darton sleeves, are the liners you can see around the pistons, and yes "Darton" is the brand. i purchused these from LS Automotive over in the states. The benefits of fitting these sleves is that it stops the bores going oval shape due to large amounts of boost and the forged pistons.
Ron Bells Engine reconditing, who andrew also put me onto (thanks again lol), in Mandurah did all the maching, acid bathing, porting etc on my engine and the blokes down there are more than willing to perfor performance work!
cheers

Wild_s13:dont really know, but i do know there is a few other ones floating around perth making decent amounts of horsies...i just hope mind follows
clutch is from the clutch factory in welshpool, i beleive its a 5 puck ceramic job.. hopefully do the job..

What are these Darton liners made from and what sort of money are you looking at for a set? I havnt heard of Darton before... do you know what other stuff they do? The reason I ask is I have a few SR's sitting around and a common thing i've noticed is stained bores. Theyre not scored or cracked they just seem to be stained and even after honing the stains remain. These stains arent really a drama but I'd like to use fresh liners on the next one that gets built.
Ps; anyone who knows of N.O.R. businesses capable achiving results with acid bathing ALUMINIUM as good as the inside of the head on 180SXTCY's motor pls let me know.

I had trouble finding a machinest around the perth metro area that would be willing to perform the machining required to fit these sleeve's..due to the fact that the block has a tendency to twist etc...
The "Darton" sleeves were purchased from LS Automotive as i stated previously over in the states and are around 800 ish dollars landed in OZ from memory (might be a tad more or less) including express freight.
best thing to do is go to www.lsauto.com and check them out for your self.
thanks

cool... centrifugally spun cast material... I thought they would be billit but there site says they are cast, dont even know how this method works!! I'll try to find something out about this casting process though cause it sounds interesting. Sounds like you will really be able to run some boost through this motor, with all the thought and fruit in this motor are you aiming for a 10 in the 180? (if you dnt want to talk it up i apologize for putting you on the spot)

a 10 second pass would not be out of the question as seen from butters with a very simular setup from wat i have gathered but you just never know how and engine is going to perform until its up and running. also other factors such as transmission, driver ability etc all comes into play.
tranny will die id say.. but then again who knows

Im relativly new to Antilag is Butters car SR or RB?

Kingd those water like stains you refer to in some cylinders are usually imperfections in the castings with higher concentration of either carbon or silicon or both. This causes hard spots and usually soft areas around these which is why they tend not to go away with honing or boring. The darton process is of a better quality and usually eliminates this. They have been making sleeves for diesels, top fuel, nitro and speedway cars etc for years. Just about every high hp honda in the states uses these sleeves which are combined with a modular deck. Ranch and another shop around ozzie park are probably the only people id trust other than ron bell to fit sleeves into ally blocks. The sr sleeves are $350us plus postage. They also do sleeves for rb26's but we have successfully used a much cheaper sleeve in these.

Nice... Ive seen this in a few motors ive got. Are you saying that the marks arnt going away because when honed or machined the tool is riding over the hard spot? or that the actual concentration of carbon/silicon is the discolouration?
What is a centrifugally spun casting as opposed to a poured casting or forged casting?
Would that other shop in ozzie park be preformance mod?

Boring bars can tend to ride over hard spots but the diamond hones usually clean up any high spots. Most if not all sleeves are spun cast which makes for more consistant strength.Yeh that other shop is performace mods which are good at doing out of the ordinary work like oringing blocks and reciever grooving heads etc.

sick... 10.89 using an SR. I thought that car (the blue one?) was an RB so (even though its a big acheivement) i wasnt really paying huge attention to its times. That would be the fastest SR powered s13 in WA then? Very impressive..

yes butters, the blue silvia, is the fastest SR20 powered s13 in perth, another bloke has a 180sx with a rb26 in it that is slighly faster, around 10.50 or something...

i ended up turning the injectors around so they sit up side down. yeah there was no chance on getting them on that way!
