Bad Fuel = Broken RB26

Was driving my R32 GTR about a month ago on a Sunday and nearly run out of fuel so went to the nearest servo - Gull. I didn't have much choice so I put $20 in. Bit later I'd forgotten about the fuel and was driving my car like I usually do - not thrashing it but I'm no grandma either, all of a sudden - snapped valve and hole in a piston (no.6) .Now I'm up for a $7-8000 rebuild, I've been trying to sell it as is but it's pretty hard when the buyer can't even drive it!

I drove my car around on a full tank of 6 month old Ultimate 98, and I tell ya right now...that thing didnt go over 3,000rpm or half throttle until I had fresh fuel in it!!!

for it to get that hot and **** bits of valve from one bad batch of fuel in a couple hundred k's ($20 worth of k's?) is pretty hardcore. Car ran as normal?

ide say there might have been more probs than just a bad lot of fuel, the fuel was maybe the straw that broke the camels back so to speak

yeah cant defiantly blame the fuel.. unless the car is highly modified and tuned

i didnt want to say it but I reckon your right man. A 'snapped' valve stem doesnt occur due to minor leaning out (cant of been that bad if it was drivable).

I baught a 2nd hand engine, had it in the car 2 hrs, first startup was ran for 60 seconds. 2nd startup for less then 10 as we heard a noise.

With the bad fuel I would say it had water in it, it was from a ****ty Gull station.

cheers for feed back guys, yeah I can't blame Gull 100% but I need to blame someone hahaha...so I'm boycotting Gull!

i had low octane in a b6t on 18psi, melted an exhaust valve-looks like it was oxycut.

i ripped the head off got a new $12 exh. valve & head gasket, fixed it in a day.
