Kalgoorlie Road Trip

Hi Guys

The girls and I are hitting the road next weekend to Kalgoorlie for a bit of a road trip..... Anyone been to this hole before and if so any recommendations of places to see?

We are staying at four seasons resort up there!

Kal can be fun to visit.

There is some good resturants to eat at.

There is the open pit to check out.

The main brothel there runs tours as well. Thats highly recomended.
You will be spun out at all the theme rooms they have.

There is a room with a full on boxing ring in it. Also just to keep it in on topic one room has a Car in it ;)

Stay away from the pool! I went there and the water was a funny yellow colour for some unknown reason lol.
I was the only white dude there and me thinkin i would be safe growing up amoungst boongs was a bad idea to go there and hope to swim happily amoungst them.

Some good fun can be to hire a metal detector and go try find some gold!
Check with the dudes that do the hiring out of the detectors on where to do it but it maybe way to hot to be out there.

Oh go on the langtree's tour you both will have a laugh lol

D'Bernales and Judd's are wicked pubs to go to,Judds also have great food upstairs in their restaurant.
Do the Brothel tour as mentioned,also the underground mine tour is good too.
Kalgoorlie is nowhere near as bad as it used to be,your probably safer walking around at night in town with your girlfriends than in northbridge.

I used to live there and still go back every few months to see my brother and friends,its a good place but I dont think I could move back there.

Stay in kal, stay away from Boulder!
Its a pretty good road trip. Tammin used to be the best stop off on the way as it had the biggest Truck depo but i havent been back to kal in 4 yrs. As mentioned before, Judds has a awsome woodfire pizza resturant. Your main action will be on Hannans Street (the main road you actually drive into town on) Last time i was there, there were 8 pubs within 100mtrs.

Thats averaging 140kmh, and no stops...
At that speed you'd need to stop in Merridan for fuel..!

Its normally a 6 hour drive, I always use BP Merridan as my Piss stop, and resupply of lollies and fuel etc.
You may want to stop at the Ettamogah pub replica at Cunderdin...but don't.
Plenty of cops from Merridan thru Southern cross with Guttermount radars during the day (easy to detect with the most simplest of radar detectors) and plenty of Roo's at night also so be carefull.

I go there a fair bit for work, Yelverton, All seasons (old Mercure) and Railway hotels the best.

As mentioned Debarnales, Judds good pubs also Paddys and the Exchange for Boobies.

Judds is good for Pizzas but $$$, Saltimbocca good if you want nice 'romantic' feed....myself i tended to eat in my Hotel or get 'Wok in a Box'!

All in all good regional party town....but don't think I could ever live there.

Best stop for fuel is the BP in Burracoppin. In the 25 odd times ive driven up there its always cheapest by far and its not far out for Merriden anyway. 5 hours is the average time to get there, but these days not the best road to speed on as they patrol it rather harshly now.
Kal is a fun place to go but agreed not the best place to live.

As mentioned before, stay out of Boulder. Just plain dodgy that part of town.

F@(K that i just left i wont be going back for a while, But a good meal in boulder is the albian shamrock good pub meals or the cornwall is well flash highly recomended and in kal the palace is nice aswell as the others mentioned dont eat chicken treat unless you want to come back in a body bag, you can stay at the palace aswell but might be a bit expensive

Kal is a hole and a boring drive ive done it many times. Much better off going down south, better roads and much more to see. Kals only worth going to if ur an alcoholic.

I actually agree. Albany and associated roads FTW, done that twice this year, will be doing so again - maybe in Feb.

Yeh its not a bad place at all, full of ppl driving around in SS', go check out the pubs along hannan street and def see the super pit! Along the way stop at merridan BP and southern cross BP, they have good food :)

140 would be a fair average, though i slowed down for the towns etc, cause i know there's always cops there looking to ping people, so was more like 160 down straights slowing down a bit for bends (was an aussie 31 afterall)
i swear adrenaline was the only thing that kept me going
if i'd done a mundane 100-110kph i would have fallen asleep i'm pretty sure
no idea where i stopped for fuel though

I actually expected to come to a town, with 2 roads and dust everywhere... but i was definatley surprised at how big this place actually was... Jeez 1 more year to go b4 im allowed to go back to perth :D

Haha thanks for all the tips and making us so much more excited about our Redneck Road Trip. We got a few mining people we know up at Kal so thats part of the reason we are going up there and to go somewhere different.

We've noted to stay outta Boulder for sure. Staying in the best hotel/resort we could find up there so if all else fails we will hide away to our inroom spa haha.

Looking foward to getting some good photos of us and the locals :P
