POLICE seized a Melbourne man's porsche after his P-plater son allegedly did burnouts and doughnuts just metres from two off-duty officers.
The 18-year-old driver left a 55m-long skid mark in a carpark late on Tuesday before the officers intervened, Victoria Police Senior Sergeant Kim Pluim said today.
A string of charges were expected to be laid over the incident outside the Balwyn Safeway supermarket in Melbourne's east.
There were shoppers in the carpark at the time and Sen-Sgt Pluim said the car could have spun out of control at any time.
The full extent of Victoria's new anti-hooning legislation had been applied to the teenage driver, from Mont Albert.
The car was seized and impounded for 48 hours with towing and storage costs to be paid when the vehicle is collected.
"The driver is expected to be charged with driving in a manner dangerous, improper use of a motor vehicle, failure to display P-plates and failure to have proper control of a motor vehicle," Sen-Sgt Pluim said.
The car was also found to be unsafe and it was issued with an unroadworthy certificate.
