hi everyone, i know im new to the site and dont want to come across as a idiot trying to bag everyone, but can anyone tell me why the majority of the turbo skylines hitting our streets aren't pulling fast times? I'm not pulling the piss out of anyone cos i only drive a 16 second corolla. so dont get me wrong.

I have two older brothers one which drives a na series 1 R33 skyline, only mods are 2 1/2" exhaust and cold air intake and he manages to get a 14.6 down at kwinana. I recently raced a R33 turbo manual in my 4age corolla and was pulling on the skyline down morley dr. Its common sense that a 100kw corolla cant compete against a turbo skyline pushing out more than 250hp atw. obviously something was wrong with the car but my recent visits down at kwinana have made me second guess the almighty skyline with times ranging from 15.8 to 14.2. kwinana being one of the fastest 1/4 miles in australia why is it there not pulling the times? sorry for all the crap^
the reason i ask all this because my next car was looking to be a skyline but.....
is it just me or are these the times the skylines should be pulling?

thats about right , the thousands of flogged out stockers in perth are slugs , but when young people get one as the first or second car , its the quickest thing on four wheels . lol.

N/A they should be pulling 14/15s IF that... what do you expect from a 2 or 2.5l n/a?
There's a hell of alot of 32/33s GTST's pulling 12s and 13s around...
And quiet a few 32 GTRs ranging from 10s to 11s and thats just on antilag.
So i dunno where you are findin these sh*tters but nobody ever said a thrashed 32/33 with half an exhaust was that quick of a car

it depends on a variety of things.you have to remember that a gts-t skyline is not a gtr.a gts-t will pull anything from a 14 to 15.5 stock.a gtr would pull from 12.9 to 13.3 stock,so there is a difference dude.my skyline did 14.3 stock, and with a few mods,13.5 so far.most standard road cars do 16,17 sec times.most jap performance cars do 14, 13 sec times.

my mate pulled a 13.9 in is lightly modded 33,

I think your one experience down morely drive in a an illegal situation, probbly needs some more research. LIne up next to one at quinana and compare times... dont guess on da street.

i see plenty of R33s at Kwinana with what look like the usual full exhaust/front mount/pod filter/boost/safc mods and managing only low-mid 14s, i think at kwinana, the problem lies with these guys and there 60ft times. getting a car out of the hole is the key to a quick 1/4 mile time. on the street in a "roll on" situation, im sure they would seem much faster than a mid 14s car.

its not the car its the driver simple those cars are capable of mid 13's mildly modded weather you can drive it down there that fast is another story

agreed, more power = less traction
considering most people still run street tyres, and a lot of people use stiff suspension (not good for weight transfer), it no surprise the times are often below what you'd expect. compare MPH times at the end of the 1/4 to compare with other cars.

P.S a 14.6 from a NA Skyline with a 2.5" exhaust and CAI is pretty imrpessive.

An example of what your talking about is last time I took my R32 GTR down to drags. When I first got it I could do easy mid-low 13's. Last time down there the clutch was a bit on the old side, not that it sliped at all on the street but it affected my 60 foot times so much the best i could manage was a 14.7 but had faster MPH

Very good post :) People tend to forget that, inexpieranced ppl see a WRX run a low 13, then a rwd car do it and think they are the same, when infact the rwd car is alot quicker and even quicker if its a fwd. Your car can be a 10 second car, if you can't drive it then its no use.

NA with CAT BACK = 14.6

I don't think the turbo version even does that stock ( 14.7? )

possible eye correct might see 15.6 or something

Stock R33 GTST = 14.4ish brand new
More likely to run high 14s stock or even 15s in a thrashed version with an average driver

my 32 is near stock (catback and pod) and id' guestimate a mid 14, maybe low 14 if i could get decent traction
i doubt a 4age rolla would get me rollons either
maybe was an atmo 33?
or maybe just very tired
mate of mine got a 14.1 out of his dead stock 180, he's a very good driver and i've beaten exhaust equipped s13s in mine before
so yeah a whole lot of it is driver
been a few times (in my other car) where i've raced obviously quicker cars, and won simply cause they take 10 seconds to find the next gear (old mazda boxes must suck)

also, yeah at normal wednesday meets most of the r33 gtst's you see run pretty average times..

I drove a mates 33gtst a while back and managed a 13.4 et. Only mods where fmic, zorst and boost it only had about 250 rwhp.

ive seen turbo r33s doing 15's
brand new evo doing 15.5 mogwa spec
all comes down tot he driver

now i also own a 100kw corolla. It would be my guess based on t e fact ive also owned many a skyline that the r33 was probably in 5th gear and running on 3 cyl.

i know of sum corollas that could quite easily dish u the chop brockas ;)
there are quite a few 4A-GTE corollas around as well as old school KE corolla's with nuts conversions!
oops forgot 2 say that most r33's seem slow because the VAST majority are very minor bolt ons, usually limited to exhaust and filter and the p-platers that drive them have the same opinion of most young commodore drivers in that they have the fastest car on the street...sick uleh

Thats what i thought aswell. But when racing him(on rollers) he dropped back gears hard, revved it to limiter(probably stayed on limiter a bit long) and did everything he could do( i thought). When i came to the next set of lights with him he was suprised when i told him it was a stock 4age. As you would be! So i dont know what went wrong with his car, and i know there's no chance of my car coming anywhere near a turbo manual skyline but i'll take that win. Ill take what ever i can get cos at the end of the day its a na 1.6l.
