First off, I have had this one since high school. Still works great, so I have no reason to upgrade. Ride it to & from work most days. Takes about half an hour, same time as the bus, gets me exercise, and saves me $$$.

The second bike is my latest toy though. This will do a 10 second 1/4 mile off the showroom floor, the only weakness is the 12 second rider. Love it to bits. Only performance mod done to it is a yoshi can.
Other than that, has a few cosmetic enhancements, but all in all is too much fun. I would have a rough guess in the area of ~140rwhp in a ~180kg frame. Its a recepie for extreme fun or complete disaster depending on the rider.

Manual's handywork. Haven't bothered taking it off yet. It's for a good cause, so Im not fussed how long it stays on.

Might look into stripping the decals off and painting it one day, but Im extremely happy with it for now.

Nice bike

Want runs? either bike A or B

Kilma
22-10-2006, 05:01 PM
I'll give you runs on either. Bike A, you have to be running, not in your car though.

Im not going to be suprised when you chomp me on bike B either. Im still not too keen on the front wheel coming up. I'll get there one day.

Ran 11.6 @ 124mph on Wed. Gotta seriously improve my launches.

Only problem is I am still a little afraid of the front wheel coming up.

Slight update. Weighs 209kg with a full tank of fuel & helmet sitting on the seat. Have since hit a 10.7 @ 136mph. Will be heading down at some point this season to try and scrape a couple of 10ths off that.

Scored 132rwhp (pretty good for a bike that came out with ~160hp @ the fly & is 6 years & 60,000kms old).

Fear of front wheel coming up is gone, as some know.

http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h191/horacegodfrey/2002%20GSXR1000/IMG_3281.jpg

Went out shopping for a set of leather pants a while ago, and walked out with a 1 piece leather suit. Money well spent if it is ever needed.

I was having a ball up at Wanners on Sunday doing a Racecraft day (had a ball all the way through to the end, and couldn't wipe the smile off my face even after the crash), so here's a pic or 2 from before. Didn't take long to get the hang of tipping the bike over.
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h191/horacegodfrey/2002%20GSXR1000/2008-10-19%20Racecraft/IMG_3366.jpg
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h191/horacegodfrey/2002%20GSXR1000/2008-10-19%20Racecraft/IMG_3367.jpg

Anyway, I was 2/3 of the way through the corner, then the rear tyre gave way. From there, all I remmber is sliding on my right hand side and seeing the bike move further away from me and sparks coming up at me. Not a very exciting accident for the spectators, but I wish I had a 1st person view of what is in my head. Looks a lot cooler. Was a gentle lowside in the end, and best of all, it was caught on video (pretty cool to watch on the big screen). :D Once we figure out how to get it off the camera, it will go up on youtube.

Only light damage. Looks a lot worse than it is.
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h191/horacegodfrey/2002%20GSXR1000/2008-10-19%20Racecraft/IMG_3500.jpg

Took a chunk out of the exhaust but lucky not to grind all the way through, missing the right footpeg (snapped off, but have the bit that snapped off as a trophy) and bent the rear brake lever pretty well.
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h191/horacegodfrey/2002%20GSXR1000/2008-10-19%20Racecraft/IMG_3508.jpg

Oggy knob is a bit worn down, so that will have to be replaced as well.
http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h191/horacegodfrey/2002%20GSXR1000/2008-10-19%20Racecraft/IMG_3510.jpg

Luckily, the rest is cosmetic, and these are the race fairings (I have a spare set from another accident about a month or two ago now that are brand new, so they will be going on).

http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h191/horacegodfrey/2002%20GSXR1000/2008-10-19%20Racecraft/IMG_3504.jpg

And finally, the knee sliders were clean at the begnning of the day. Here are the results at the end.

I have taken my car off the end of Cat Corner on a track day as well, so the current standings are Cat Corner 2 : Kilma 0. The scores will be levelled one day.

Sorry to hear about the drop, at least it was on the track and not the road where you have a bigger chance of smacking into something and doing real damage.

+1 for bike run, with or without cars

Yeah. Was kept to minimal damage, so I'm pretty happy with my first track experience on the bike.

Last one was fun, so I would be keen for another (once I have a new footpeg and brake lever).

Will be more pics coming of the day. They were ones taken by a mate sitting in the stands. Hopefully I can get hold of another couple taken by the photographer that was there on the day.

Love the look of the new Suzukis other than those exhausts! But thats easily fixed I spose.

Can't argue with that power/weight ratio!

Riggs
22-10-2008, 12:48 PM
Yeah it looks like Suzuki have once again produced a belter of an engine like they did years ago and combined it with a feather weight frame.

Next year will be a good one for the 1L sport bikes.

Ridden the new blade, brilliant but only downfall is its dog ugly looks so wont be going there.

Dont like the Kwaka

Will be test riding both the new GSXR with its brute power and R1 with Moto GP inspired engine when they land here and pick one from there. Im sick to death of pinching the old mans and need my own.

Sweet bike mate!
My first was a 1998 RGV250 similar but the Aprillia has a fair bit more poke!
Most fun bike I have owned, mint for throwing through the traffic!

Yea I looked at about 4 or 5 RGVs - all had something wrong with them whether it be missing compliance plates, race-trashed, and generally people asking way too much.

The '98 Aprilia popped up and teh rest is history :D

Will have new chicken strips at the end of next week.

Nice work on the pickup. My housemate (Yorik) has a 1999 Afailia RS250. Appropriately named. One day it might run, or he might flog it off to rgvlee or someone else who is interested. Dunno.

I cannot/will not confirm.

It won't run again without a bit of effort. I don't know exactly what is required.

Both are advertised figures, and still on the plus side. But impressive still.

Still if you want "the" bike to go fast on, the new CBR is the ride to be on.

I hear Honda have actually lifted their game and lowered the price as well??

Here is a clip or 2 from the day, including the crash. Like I said, nothing spectacular from the spectator's point of view.

Well that depends who you talk to i guess.

In 98 the R1 came out. A tank slapper carby bike , BUT it made the HP. It was the coolest thing since Pete Jackson gear drives. Then all of the sudden, Honda released the 929RR in 2000. It had a stronger motor, with a flatter torque curve, brakes that you couldnt even compare, chassis that was both streetable and quicker at the track, lighter, and PGM-FI injected. It was still overlooked as "yea thats cool , BUT WHAT is Yamaha going to do ?" .

In 02 the 954RR came out. Yamaha had that abortion of a EFI model come out in 03, and still it was a dog with 3 legs.

However, speak to a Yamaha person, and ignore the facts, and the story is very different from the start of the new millenia.

The game is always high. The Gixer and the ZX10 have stolen the attraction in the past few years, by building high HP , peaky motors that get rave reviews ..... but fact is apart form AMA and Mat Mladin on a Suzuki, Honda and then Yamaha have dominated every type of WSB / BSB / ASB etc etc out there.

Kilma
24-10-2008, 08:30 AM
I don't really keep track of the new bikes performance/price etc. (I can't afford them, so generally don't bother), but I hear the Honda has been a bit more expensive than R1, GSXR1000 & ZX10R over the last couple of years, and that is what has hit them hard. Like I said, I am by no means any sort of expert on the new bikes though.

However, speak to a Yamaha person, and ignore the facts, and the story is very different from the start of the new millenia.
You're slightly biased towards Honda as well. :p How is the SP1 going? Hitting up the drags on it still?

Riggs

I have always preffered Yamaha over Honda.

However after riding the new CBR round wanners I will concede that they are utterly BRILLIANT.

Saf

Its not that im bias, i just know them inside out, and have at the moment 4 CBR's by choice. If i didnt ride Honda, id be next on Suzuki, for quite a few reasons.

The SP-2 only went up once .... but far from a drag bike, its not gone back since.
