just got the R31 yesterday and water pump blew a leak..
anyways drove it to the place to get fixed today and by the time i got there it had just about ran dry and made some weird grinding sounds followed by bubbling in the radiator finsihed by sizzling once i got there and turned it off..
is there anyway of checking if the headgasket is blown besides checking for milky oil? temp guage doesnt work btw so not sure how hot it got..
and also if it is blown wat to expect when driving it ??
cheers

tk test
temp guage wouldnt have worked even if it.... worked
did it ping when you where driving her
if its done the gasket will become a 5 or 4 cylinder if it already isnt
if its done it properly will also blow steam out her exhaust
Dont be too paranoid she may have survived
If it is blown comp it to see if shes still got decent compression then you'll know if you are just replacing the gasket or the engine
If not they're a cheap engine to replace

well picked it up..running like its running on 5 cylinders and not holding boost at all even tho i can hear turbo spoolin and its fluttering when u back off
will check all piping and coil packs tonite..theres always hope..if not is there anyone that can do the gasket like i mean for a cashie..cheers
oil isnt milky btw..
i've seen a rb20 run dry then get driven a good 20k's with no damage to head gasket or bottom end.
if it was a 26 it woulda put a rod outa the block.....rb20=chuck norris.

if its cracked between cylinder and water channel, it'll just be venting hot gas straight into coolant system, which if temp gauge was working you would see temp go thru the roof.

checked all coils by unplugging them one by one..only one that didnt make a difference was the one at the very front so i swapped it with a 2 working one but did nothing to the running of the engine, checked all cooler piping also and that seems to be all tight.. when i hold my hand over the exhuast it seems to spit abit of water even wen warm..
going to Ring HyperDrive today..

RB20 are pretty tough when it comes to overheating.. mine did it all the time when I first got it.. had no choice but to drive it and it didn't die.. should be ok dude..

My car has just had similer problems , pumping water into overflow and boiling.
It overheated a week back . I let it cool down . Checked water and it was dry :(.
Sometimes at low idle it will develop a bad miss but it runs on all 6 cylinders well.
I have no oil in the water and no water in the oil.
Im doing a full cooling system flush and radiator clean out this weekend.
Hopefully my headgasket is ok or i will chuck a barnie bad!
Redline07 or jarrod, blew his out in three places on his gts4, was a prety easy and cheap fix, no damage to anythign else. lots a steam! but yeah, ph test it :) and what do the plugs look like?? they may have some nast milky whit crap on em if theres a leak. a miss would just be oily.

good old Hyperdrive sortted me out..
turns out..gasket is fine i underestimated the Rb20, missing injector clips was the culprit, one shook loose and was running on 5 cyl, shame was..drove it from there to servo, and alternator or something to do with the charging of the battery decided it was time to break..it drained a brand new battery from Malaga to Yokine..motor wouldnt even click over..so its off the auto sparkies asap..
driven the car 4 times now including to get the water pump fixed, and its been in the shop 3 times
