guys n gals,

what are your thoughts?

Ive only got basic mods - i.e. fmic, exhaust and turbosmart boost controller

would the safc2 suit my needs or no point?

also - would it be suitable to use with the turbosmart single stage boost controller?

or whats the go?

I have no idea on these types of ecu's etc - gimmie an LS1 with edit :D hahah
so thats why the silly questions!

for basic mods its very good

just let the tuner set the map, then leave it alone :)

oh wait, series 1 have gay spec rich and retard engine map

so it will be good to a certain point, but if ur buying new for a few hundred dollars more a power fc is 100 times better

i got 50rwhp from my older 5 knob style safc
my afr's were below 10 and it sorted it right out, car ran ****loads better and made more power
this was on redtop eccs rb20det 31
so may not be as effective on a 33
people have had similar or better results on 1jz's also

Indeed, I got 66rwhp from a S-AFC 2 and tune. AFR's were way below 10 as soon as it came on boost.

Roughly -20% correction from 4000rpm onwards.

can be very good, but can be very bad...

Ok Travis

The major issue with the SAFC2 , is that because it is a unit designed to trick the factory ecu into thinking there is more or less fuel then is actually being used , it can lead the ecu to doing wierd things.

for example, by pulling alot of fuel out (ie on nissans and toyotas) , the safc tricks the ecu into thinking that there is still alot more fuel then actually being consumed. The ecu then sees big load and lots of fuel when you are hard on it, and will often add timing to compensate. But wait, you actually dont have as much fuel as the ecu thinks. so suddenly you find yourself in a very detonation friendly situation, and we all know how turbo import motors love ping...

Thats why you get it dyno tuned....

Regardless, dyno tunes can only come close to emulating real world experiences. Ive yet to see a dyno room do tuning at 5 degrees to simulate freezing nights etc, or change the speed settings so you can do heavy load top gear runs etc.

They are a good tool, just need to be aware of little things like that. I loved mine, more so for the fact that it told me throttle posistion, revs, boost, and did the fuel correction.
400 odd dollars for a acurate and digital gauge the records peak values is mint in my book :)

just got mine tuned

gaind roughly 30rwhp on a SR20det with zorst FMIC and controller. Bought it for $250 and tune for $130...Best money ive spent!!!

driving is so much smoother and power is so much earlier and longer!

who did the tune for $130?

an hours dyno time at most shops would cost you a similar amount, and it shouldnt take more then an hour to do.

thanks for telling me something i already knew mate
fully aware of how they work and yes they should be tuned on a dyno

just got my car sent to a wrkshop for retune as it has been running weird, got the call this arvo to tell me its been running dangerously lean for quite some time now, keep in mind that this was not all safc related bad tune and tyred fuel pump both led to this

detonation is recomended   :squint:

thats why we check it on the street. at night in high gears.

back on topic have had no problems with safc 1 or 2 for minor mods on several cars SR RB 1JZ etc etc well worth the money if not intending to change too much mods wise depends on the overall plan with the car.

SAFC 2 has knock meter(or so the advertising tells me), if you keep an that you should be able to spot detonation before it kills the car.

TJ

Only for some models

Not everyone has access to a lambada and "private" test track John

Dont get me wrong, im a big fan, just dont think they are the be all.

ur correct it does have a knock meter, only prooblem is it doesnt work on toyota 1jz motors, and if it does i certainly cant get mine to work??
