View Full Version : Perth's Worst Street

I want to hear what people think is the worst (main) street in perth, this can either be to it being poorly designed, or bad road surface etc. Give reasons for why it's so bad.
My opiniong, Carrington St (between South St and Rockingham Rd). It's the narrowest, bumpiest, most patched up piece of **** road SOR in my opinion....

THE WORST!!!! is turning right off beechboro rd onto Bennet springs drive. That road for about 200 meters is the worst bumpy/thin/potholed crap road in perth !
For how much traffic it gets you would think they would fix it
THOMAS ST WEST PERTH.
Approximately 34 million sets of lights in a space of about 50 metres, causes traffic snarls all day every day, year round.
Its also one of the only ways to easily access the Western Suburbs from the Northern Suburbs, so its sooo busy all the time.

Hay Street - from William St up to parliment house - farken nightmare during weekdays driving up towards West Perth.
Noobs crossing the road everywhere, retards driving 2km/per hour looking for a parking bay, spastics not staying in their lane, etc, etc.

Beaufort St is a bit hectic. Way to many parked cars on the street, and people pulling out/in everywhere.

I;m gonna go with the Fwy. Coming off Murray Street to head South on the freeway you have to merge right to continue to the Kwinana and battle with the traffic coming off the mitchell and wanting to merge left to get onto Riverside drive. Near the Convention centre. In the afternoons, soooo bad. Just push in, smile and wave!!

Not the worst street but a poorly designed merging lane is the one at the start of the Tunnel heading west, if they made the merge a lot further back and much longer it wouldn't be so backed up all the time.
Yeah the fwy is just ****ed in general!

Agreed, what a joke it is that the 2 oncoming lanes onto the freeway, don't at any stage merge. If you're not a prick and don't push in you'll probably end up going back into the city...

Freeway. In general, just the whole concept of having 2 onramp lanes merging into one, and then the one immediately merging into the left lane of the freeway is just flawed. Doesnt matter how many lanes wide you make the freeway, having 4 lanes into one at each onramp just creates a bottleneck that will never be overcome.
In particular, the Manning Rd on/off ramps. Traffic coming off the freeway cuts across traffic coming off Canning Hwy trying to get onto the freeway, and you have a speed zone drop from 80km/h on the freeway to 60km/h for the Canning Hwy traffic. Similarly, coming off Manning Rd to get onto Canning Hwy, have to cut across traffic coming off the freeway trying to get onto Canning Hwy. It's the only exit on the freeway where the offramps cut across the onramps, and its a joke.
Added to which, there's no freeway south onramp off Manning Rd, meaning you have to go through 2 sets of lights - get off Manning Rd across freeway off ramp onto canning hwy, lights, Canning Hwy over freeway, lights, then freeway south onramp off Canning Hwy cutting across freeway off ramp traffic getting onto Manning Rd.
Agreed on Thomas St, Beaufort St, and Stirling Hwy (at least Canning Hwy has turning lanes!!)
Old Mandurah Rd for the roughie.

Yesterday 30mins to get from Sth Street on the Fwy to Leach Hwy, due to people not being able to merge and ****ting themselves at lane change markers. Morons. Bring an end to the road works!

Granted theres some badly designed freeway onramps but i think youll find the major flaw is perth drivers. Inconsiderate, discourteous, inattentive or just plain stupid drivers are the cause of most frustrating traffic situations and traffic jams.

The on ramp has 2 lanes and the right hand lane merges with the farmer left lane, seen 2 crashes and heaps more, where the guy on the on ramp isnt going fast enough

worst bit of road by far in the entire of perth is the big intersection of the horseshoe/william/wellington
Travling east there has been a section of road there that is just completely destroyed. I cant drive over it faster than 5kph without feeling like my car is just going to snap in half or my windows smash...
Yet the fu(kheads (mainroads) down the road from my house on selby street floreat think its a fu9king great idea to put a new island in the road to piss people off more insted of fixing that intersection in the MIDDLE of the city.

sixty eight road (or 86 rd ?) that cuts thru baldivis. There is a corner marked at 80, cool until just before the apex there is a man hole that sticks out the bitumen by about 50mm, enough to REALLY upset a falcon wagon, wouldnt wanna hit it in something with skitty suspension.... game over into tree
Loftus St at 7.30-8.30Am...
they Really need to set up those lights better.....ive seen the cars from all directions block the insection...
3 congested intersctions one being a fwy off ramp...in the space of 150m...DOESNT ****ING WORK

West Swan road on weekends and public holidays is shocking, people drive at 40 so they can find what winery they want. Then spot it at the last moment and brake hard and pull in. Ive had more road rage incidents here than any where else.

Stirling Highway. Council widened median strip as such so people can pull to middle and turn without blocking traffic between claremont and dalkeith road... people dont understand how to do that right. There are too many traffic lights and entries/exits. ITS A HIGHWAY, NOT A STREET. Stupid stupid stupid. They need to do what occurs on the Gold Coast, median strip whole way, set of lights with a Uturn signal.
Tonkin Hwy onramp at Albany Hwy...

Orrong road to leach hwy sucks in traffic, but the freeway around the city nor and sor is just f**ked every morning and afternoon wen ppl come and go from work
Reid highway before the intersection of Grt Northern Highway, tiny one lane each way road with a shocking surface, then goes over a tiny bridge where there is barely enough room for a truck to go one way and you the other way, and in the mornings it gets backed up bigtime.
Leading up to it at the intersections of Altone red, West swan Rd, Beechboro rd are stupid, goes into two lanes at the lights, then back to one lane just after the lights, it's just ****house! how hard would it have been to just have built 2 lanes each way in the first place!!
not sure if it's changed since then, havn't had to go on those roads for a few years.

Guilford rd, just past alfreds kitchen, along the antique shop/coffee shop strip.
Used to have 4 lanes at one stage (If i remember correctly) now its form 1 lane after the lights, and go as slow as you can, major headache in the mornings and afternoons.

A lot of the roads in Midland are really bad. Their train crossings seem to be the worst I have seen around Perth as well.
I really don't like those cable/post 'barriers', IMO you would probably do more damage sideswiping one of them than hitting a concrete barrier or armco, as it the car would be sorta 'sucked in' rather than just bounce off.

The cable and post barriers absord a sh|tload more energy than concrete or armco. If you hit concrete or steel the car crumbles, if you hit the cable and pole barrier the poles crumble and the car gets farked up a bit but you have a way better chance of surviving.

Yeah, ricey is correct, they're designed to absorb the impact. I'd much rather hit them than the concrete.
Yeh no question in a big crash they would be a good thing, I imagine they could turn a small crash into a big one though.

Crash your bike into a concrete barrier and youre farked as well. Crash into anyhting on a bike and your chances of surviving are much lower than in a car.

one example of a poorly designed road is in my area.
Marangaroo Drv Ballajura, heading West bound from Illawarra Cres.
The most slippery road i have ever encountered, with any amount of rainfall. Seen so many people come unstuck there, even mums and grandma's and all. Give it a bit too much right foot and you all over the shop.
And its not the usual excuse of 'someone has poured oil over it' the entire 600m stretch of road is stuffed. Obviously the council stuffed up the bitumen mix or something.

Fu(king Kwinana freeway in the mornings. Traffic banked up to Russell Rd East Exit is just ridiculous! On a bad morning, it takes an hour and 40 minutes when with no traffic it'll be a 40 minute trip from Port Kennedy to the city. Can't wait till I move to the city next week!
