Going to do the engine conversion on my Ceffy - RB20E to RB20DET.
Does anyone know if there are any differences in the engine block between the RB20E and the RB20DET? Prolly going to change rings / gaskets etc anyways and if I can keep the same engine block it means the engine number stays the same and I don't need to take it over the pits again.
Thoughts?
Thanks!!
i dont think u need to take it over the pits with a new engine ....

Yeah but it's RB20E to RB20DET
*shrugs* Ahhh well, I can always argue that it's always been turbocharged - "I just swapped the engine cos it......ummmmm........was fun?" :)

if its the same size engine - u dont need to take it over the pits- u just have to re-register the new VIN # - its only if ur going to a bigger displacment then u have to get it checked out
hope that helps

I thought that you had to take it over the pits if there was going to be a substantial power increase? Cos they want to upgrade the brakes etc then?
Dunno - I've got the forms for the upgrade and they ask about suspension and brake upgrades and if you've added turbos etc. Look, in the end, I'll probably just do the conversion and then ring the pits up to see what they say....
Thanks for the help everyone!!! :)

i'm pretty sure you have to go over the pits cause your changing the style of induction as well from natural to forced, but hey i'm not really sure to tell you the truth

i just picked those forms up today - its really specific
i phoned Lee (Tech dept at Trans) and he said they did away with the displacment rule or what eva it was - so that favoured me - the only thing they are worried about if it stops correctly - whether or not there are any after market weildings and the strength/type of engine mounts used
ope that helped? did u ring the tech department of the department of transports (what eva they are now)? Talk to Lee

in NSW at least, if the car was offered with a turbo motor, then you can install a turbo motor without engineering as long as it doesnt produce 15% more power than the most powerful engine available in that car.
rb20det into a car that was offered with it should be no problem at all, just get an engine swap slip as previously mentioned
